College Football Rankings 2011: Predicting How the Top 25 Will Look After Week 2

Randy ChambersSep 8, 2011

With the AP Poll released, there are a lot of teams worthy of their current spot but a few teams that aren't. As the weeks go by, the real teams will begin to prove their worth while the fake will continue to fall down the rankings.

There were very few major changes in last week's poll, as the top stayed the same with an exception of Oregon. Expect more of the same this week, but the bottom half of the rankings will have a few surprises.

Here is how the AP Poll top 25 will look after Week 2.

25. USC Trojans

1 of 25

The Trojans were in this spot last week but dropped out with a close victory over the Minnesota Golden Gophers. With a lot of teams at the bottom losing this week, USC sneaks back in the Top 25.

Is it possible that Robert Woods becomes a serious Heisman candidate?

24. TCU Horned Frogs

2 of 25

It's surprising that TCU was able to stay in the Top 25 after the performance they put on against Baylor last week. They'll have trouble handling Air Force's running game, but they'll win the game.

They move up one spot.

23. BYU Cougars

3 of 25

Head coach Bronco Mendenhall is going a great job with this BYU program, and when the Cougars upset the Longhorns on national TV, they'll crack the Top 25.

This defense is stifling.

22. Arizona State Sun Devils

4 of 25

Arizona State will upset Missouri on Friday night and crack the Top 25 for the first time this season. They have a solid offense and a defense to match.

They will prove that they are a serious contender to win the Pac-12 this season.

21. South Florida Bulls

5 of 25

The Bulls won't need five turnovers to win this week against Ball State. They win fairly easily and move up one spot in the rankings.

20. West Virginia Mountaineers

6 of 25

Geno Smith continues to impress, and the Mountaineers continue to win as they romp over the Norfolk State Spartans.

19. Baylor Bears

7 of 25

Stephen F. Austin may be able to score 80 against the Baylor defense the way they did last week against McMurry. But as TCU found out last week, anything you can do, Robert Griffin can do better.

18. Florida Gators

8 of 25

I know it's early, but I'm sure Gators fans will take a 70 percent completion percentage from John Brantley any day of the week.

The Gators will roll over UAB and get ready for the SEC schedule to open up next week.

17. Michigan State Spartans

9 of 25

Not sure this is how FAU coach Howard Schnellenberger planned for his last season to be. First Florida, now Michigan State and next week it's Auburn. Ouch.

The Spartans win easily.

16. Ohio State Buckeyes

10 of 25

The Buckeyes looked pretty sharp last week and will continue on the same path with a victory over Toledo.

15. Arkansas Razorbacks

11 of 25

Ryan Mallett or Tyler Wilson? Doesn't matter when you're playing New Mexico.

Arkansas stays in the Top 15.

14. Mississippi State Bulldogs

12 of 25

The Auburn Tigers may not be anywhere close to the team they were last year, but winning in Jordan-Hare Stadium is still a tough feat regardless.

This victory should move the Bulldogs up in the rankings and prove to the rest of the SEC that they're for real.

13. Oregon Ducks

13 of 25

She's checking out the scoreboard because the Ducks are going to explode on the offensive side of the ball against that Nevada defense.

The Ducks stay at No. 13 for now.

12. Virginia Tech Hokies

14 of 25

Is it just me or do the Hokies have the easiest schedule in the country? You could make a case it's easier than Boise State's.

East Carolina's defense will continue to make the Hokies' offense look like the Oregon Ducks (when they're not playing SEC teams).

11. Nebraska Cornhuskers

15 of 25

The Cornhuskers continue their sub-par schedule and roll over the Fresno State Bulldogs.

Nebraska will stay at the top of the rankings for a while until they begin to actually play somebody.

10. South Carolina Gamecocks

16 of 25

Even though the Georgia Bulldogs are no longer a ranked team, they are still very talented. A win over them should move the Gamecocks up two spots in the rankings and just crack the Top 10.

9. Wisconsin Badgers

17 of 25

Oregon State lost to the Sacramento State Hornets last week. Who?

There's no chance they beat an impressive Wisconsin team.

How good does Russell Wilson make this offense that was already tough to deal with?

8. Oklahoma State Cowboys

18 of 25

I was really thinking about picking the Arizona Wildcats in the Cowboys matchup tonight, but couldn't muster up the courage to really do it.

Oklahoma State wins a close one and moves up to No. 8.

7. Texas A&M Aggies

19 of 25

The Aggies will beat up on another cupcake, and this time it's Idaho. Then they will begin to play more difficult teams and see how well they'll really stack up against tough competition.

6. Stanford Cardinal

20 of 25

Stanford versus Duke would be a great matchup in women's basketball, but in college football, not so much.

Andrew Luck carves the Blue Devils defense up and Stanford stays in the six spot.

5. Florida State Seminoles

21 of 25

The Florida State Seminoles eat the appetizer in Charleston Southern before they get to the main meal next week against the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Buccaneers lost to UCF 62-0 last week. I can't imagine how ugly this game could get.

4. Boise State Broncos

22 of 25

The Boise State Broncos versus Toledo Rockets game should be fun to watch as they both have explosive offenses. But Toledo doesn't have enough defense to keep up.

Boise continues to run the table and stays at No. 4 in the rankings.

3. LSU Tigers

23 of 25

After a very impressive win over the Oregon Ducks last week, the Tigers cruise to an easy victory over the Northwestern State Demons.

This will be the last below-par team LSU will play for a while.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide

24 of 25

A victory over the Penn State Nittany Lions in Happy Valley is enough for the Crimson Tide to jump the LSU Tigers and get that second spot in the rankings back.

Although, Alabama must find out who their starting quarterback is going to be fast—before they hit that tough SEC schedule.

1. Oklahoma Sooners

25 of 25

Nobody behind the Sooners is going to beat anybody this week that will be worth jumping them in the rankings. Oklahoma gets a week off before they head to Tallahassee and take on the Florida State Seminoles.

I wish we could just skip majority of this week's schedule and fast-forward to that game already.
