EPL: Manchester City Star Who Almost Left Club During Transfer Window

Adam HartJun 7, 2018

After the close of the transfer window, the only thing to do now is either analyze what teams did right and wrong or live with the decisions they made. Some teams made excellent transfers and wound up with an even better team than they started with. Others lost great players and passed up on players they could have used.

Consider Arsenal, they lost Nasri and Fabregas. While they did get some useful players during the transfer window, they won't play nearly as well as they did when they had both of these players. Arsenal would do much better if Wenger, their manager, looked at bigger name players and not go choosing from the bargain bin.

The Bundesliga took a hard hit losing Nuri Sahin to Real Madrid and Per Mertesacker to Arsenal.

Moving on to a team that did well enough during the transfer window to be looked upon as a better team, but still could have made better decisions, Manchester City. They did acquire Nasri from Arsenal and managed to hold on to Tevez, but these transfers weren't the ones that they wanted.

One of the biggest transfers that could have happened was trading Sneijder for Tevez. This deal with Inter could have been the best thing to happen to Manchester City since the acquisition of Tevez. Not only is Sneijder a better and more powerful player, Tevez was looking into leaving England that summer and Italy was his most likely destination. It would have been positive for both parties to continue the transfer. Yet, their were several things that halted this transaction from happening.

The fees for both of these players were an astounding amount to say the least. Even for these giant clubs, the price tags of these players were just too much. One of the larger reasons that the transfer was called off was the arrival of Nasri. Manchester City saw that Nasri filled the same role that Sneijder would and decided to keep Tevez and Nasri. Why this stopped the transfer I have no idea. Nasri would have played excellent with Sneijder if the deal had gone through. They would have gained a better leader on the pitch and would have a much more powerful offense.

There is nothing they can do now. They have made their decisions and have to stick to them. Hopefully it pays off for both clubs.
