College Football: TCU-Baylor Game Indicates We're in for a Dramatic Season

This year's college football season is destined for more upsets, down-to-the wire contests and action.

The TCU-Baylor game just added to our firm beliefs.

Last night, you saw a 24-point fourth-quarter lead slip away. A rookie quarterback leading his team to 48 points. An offensive battle that ended when the clock ran out.

That is what you will see all year long.

You might not see a ranked team go down 50-48 on a Friday night game anymore, but you will see more close games. Games like Oregon against LSU and Boise State at Georgia were further proof in Week 1.

What you saw (if you watched the game last night) was extraordinary. The TCU Horned Frogs fell to the Baylor Bears 50-48, as Aaron Jones kicked the game-winning field goal with 1:04 left.

Mike Hicks intercepted a Casey Pachall pass and avoided being tackled with two seconds left, and Robert Griffin, who had thrown five touchdowns, kneeled to end the game.

College football has always brought dramatic upsets—Michigan losing to App State, Virginia Tech losing to James Madison. I guarantee, if you watch college football, you will see some of that.

In this game, Baylor dove deep into the playbook and returned with a touchdown and a first down. Wide receiver Kendall Wright caught a short pass and threw a touchdown to give Baylor a 7-0 lead.

Much later, with the Bears trailing 48-47, Wright found the quarterback, Griffin, for a 14-yard gain. That jump-started the Baylor offense, who picked up 46 more yards en route to the winning field goal.

The field goal that gave Baylor the lead just barely got through the left corner of the upright. If it was a 40-yard field goal instead of a 37-yard kick, it would've missed.

That's how dramatic this game was. And that's how dramatic your 2011 college football season will be.
