Texas Longhorns Are Being Selfish Toward Texas A&M

Ricky WriterSep 1, 2011

Texas A&M University officially notified the Big XII earlier this week that they intend to leave the conference before June of 2012. Some people might look at this as A&M being jealous of the Longhorn Sports Network and possible revenue issues in the “new” Big XII.

Let me be the first to say that if you know the culture of Texas A&M it is about respect, you can’t even walk on the grass on campus. People forget that the school has a military background. If you think this is about banter and bickering between two schools you are very wrong.

That being said it is about damn time A&M separated itself from the Texas Longhorns, because the Longhorns blatant disrespect for the entire league much less its rival has reached an all-time high.

To A&M, the University of Texas is the roommate that you share an apartment with that does not clean up after themselves, eats your food, parties late at night when you have to work in the AM, and still has the nerve to have a sense of entitlement.

Longhorns may argue differently, but A&M is every bit the equal of Texas in tradition, facilities, alumni base and following that Texas has.

Yet, Texas’ unruly snobbish ass continues to alienate longtime conference buddies and has ruined the SWC, Original Big XII, and the New Big XII.

I think the old athletic director at Arkansas, Frank Broyles, was on to something when he left the SWC in the early 1990’s.

A&M isn’t jealous of Texas in any way shape or form, it’s the selfish business practices that have pushed the institution to the limit. The Aggies are just tired of the constant instability for the last 20 years that Texas’ outright greed has caused the entire league.

I think that Texas A&M would like to preserve the tradition of being connected to Texas and the rivalry that comes with it, but after the latest set of issues has come to pass, it’s time to move on to the greener pastures and stability of SEC.

The fallout from this in the year to come could be huge.

Schools in the future that could be affected by Texas' greed are Oklahoma, Florida State, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Miami and BYU. All of these schools could be affected as conferences struggle to balance themselves out after A&M moves to the SEC.

The bulk of conference moves in the last 20 years can be tracked back to either trying to stay with Texas, or get away from them if you think about it.

Sometimes you get what you are asking for and Texas will get its just deserts soon.

In the meantime, I wish Texas A&M the best as they at least have the balls to stand up to the communist greed monger that has become the University of Texas.
