Football Fan's Proposition: League XI Friendly Matches

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have the best players in each domestic league compiled into one team. Here on Bleacher Report, compiling starting XIs is one of the things we do best. So wouldn't it be great to perhaps see some of those teams put into place for friendly matches around the world.

What I am suggesting in this article is that a postseason round robin tournament take place at the conclusion of each domestic season. The tournament would comprise the respective teams of the year for each domestic competition (ie: Premier League XI, Serie A XI etc.). Each squad would face off with other squads from around the world until eventually, by process of elimination, a winner is decided. Not only would these matches prove to be a great spectacle, they could go a long way (eventually) to determining perhaps how leagues should be ranked according to a coefficient.

The matches/tournament could also be used as a means by football to promote issues around the world including poverty, racism and other matters. As is the case in the tennis fraternity (Hit for Haiti), ticket sales could go to a particular cause. The state overall football and those being helped by the money would benefit.

Other things that could be considered with the competition that would make it an effective introduction to the world of football:

• Have the tournament coincide with the European Player of the Year Awards (held in the same city etc.)
• Develop the image surrounding the tournament, ultimately building it into a "festival of football."
• Ensure it is a regular occurrence (annual).
• Allowing extensive fan and player interaction

All in all, I do think that such a competition could prove to be an effective way to promote the world game. Not only would the talent on show be simply superb, but football could use its presence to generate awareness of certain issues.
