South Carolina Football: Can You Feel It? It's Finally Here

South Carolina fans, rejoice. 

After months of waiting, hyping, prognosticating and preseason rankings, our favorite month of the year is finally here.

September.

It's football time in the Carolinas, and all across the SEC.  In two days (well, today, for some teams), the SEC and South Carolina Gamecocks will begin their quest for a national title. 

In a time filled with war, political turmoil, natural disasters and general apathy, it's great to have something as wonderful as this sport to get us fired up. 

This year means everything to the Gamecock faithful.  This is the year we have been waiting for our entire lives.  Hate all you want, but you have no idea how much this means to Columbia.  Fans of Georgia, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Auburn and other championship teams don't understand. 

You know passionate fans—but you don't know Gamecock fans.  We live this stuff. We have been waiting eons for a competitive team. We may now finally have it, and it is deserved, if I do say so myself.

If you have been to Columbia, you know we welcome you with open arms.  That's the Gamecock way, and if you have had any other experience than pleasant, then I apologize.  We may have the team that matches our amazing fan base.

It's thrilling and scary at the same time.  What happens if this season is another eight-win season?  It can't be, right?  Too many stars, too many great players. What happens to us?

Last season, the door was opened; this season, we decide whether or not we step through it.

So, good luck all you Commodores, Wildcats, Volunteers, Gators, Dawgs, Tide, Tigers, Razorbacks and Rebels. 

Enjoy your season, and the company you keep. 

It's great to be a Gamecock, and it's great to be an SEC fan.
