Arsenal Transfer News: Mikel Arteta Brings Hope Back to Arsene Wenger's Gunners

Gabe ZaldivarJun 5, 2018

Frantic turned to manic. Just before the tenor at Emirates hit a full panic, a sigh of relief could be heard. Arsene Wenger had pulled off the deadline deal he needed to. Mikel Arteta is off to Arsenal, bringing hope with him.

SkySports reported, live outside Emirates, star midfielder Mikel Arteta would move on a four-year deal to Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger was forced to take in the view of his feet this week as his head was forever hanging. Manchester United shouted from the hilltops that Arsenal was a second-class club in their 8-2 drubbing last weekend.

The signings began coming into Emirates at a furious pace. Per Mertesacker was signed from Werder Bremen when the Gary Cahill negotiation died. Then Andre Santos put his pen to paper.

Arsenal supporters sat petulant, like kids at Christmas that still had not received what they were promised. Sure they had a renewed attack and solidified defense with names like Santos, Mertesacker, Park Chu-Young and Yossi Benayoun.

The last two days had been indeed productive, but hardly magical. That is when Arsene Wenger pulled off the transfer signing of the week. It took the final hour of the deadline to deliver the marquee name.

Arsenal have been a lot of things in the last few weeks. They have been fragmented on defense, and stagnant on offense. What they have lacked is a cool-headed leader in the middle to command the pace.

Mikel Arteta brings calm to a tumultuous summer. As we enter into the fall, the heat that was on Arsene Wenger should dissolve as their newest weapons reload the Gunners for a title fight.

For weeks we have been inundated with excuses. Arsenal is too young, too thin on defense, lacking top-tier polish. The excuses can leave through the same door Cesc Fabregas took a month ago.

Arsenal have the boys to get the job done, and Arteta is the glue to bring it all together. The 29-year-old Spanish international has been a lone blessing for Everton for seven seasons.

Arteta saw a surge in his talents once David Moyes forced him more into an attacking mode. You can bet that Arsene Wenger will have Arteta playing the same role Moyes had him run at Goodison Park.

I began to worry as Wenger was forced to sign players at a fevered pitch following the massacre at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Wenger excels as forming a side based on creative signings and youth development. Mikel Arteta is the first deadline deal that has all the markings of classic Wenger.

Arteta, when healthy, is a fine midfielder that will push the Gunners deep into their attack. He brings charisma to the Emirates' pitch, making him assured to be a fan favorite shortly.

A summer filled with tumult finally has a fairy tale ending to bookend what could have been a nightmare. Mikel Arteta brings the one thing that had been drained from Emirates. He brings back the thought of lofty goals and grand pipe dreams.

Yes, hope is back residing with the Gooners squad, and you can thank Arsene Wenger. Yesterday's villain is the deadline's hero.
