SPL: Club-by-Club Guide to Transfer Deadline Deals

Colin StoneSep 1, 2011

Amidst the madness of transfer deadline day, all was relatively quiet north of the border.

Although both halves of the Old Firm had transfer scares with Nikica Jelavic and Gary Hooper interesting other clubs, both have stayed put and the club's squads remain intact.

However, several deals were completed last night by other Scottish Premier League sides, so let's look at who signed whom, as well as a conclusive round-up of each club's summer dealings.

Aberdeen

1 of 12

Despite searching for a striker, Dons manager Craig Brown was left frustrated as he failed to find a suitable forward.

However, Brown did make several much-needed signings prior to deadline day, with Chalili, Arnason and Clark looking the most intriguing.

But the loss of captain Zander Diamond and striker Chris Maguire could hit Aberdeen hard.

Celtic

Neil Lennon had a scare on deadline day as star striker Gary Hooper was linked with a move to the Premier League, with both Wolves and QPR expressing an interest.

However, nothing came of the move and Celtic's top scorer stays at Parkhead for another six months at least.

On a disappointing note for Bhoys fans, the club failed to offload Greek striker Georgios Samaras as St.Etienne withdrew their interest, but the Glasgow side did bring in Badr El Kaddouri on the last day as a replacement for the injured Emilio Izaguirre.

Peter Houston made two last-minute deals for Fulham youngsters as he tried to rebuild a squad decimated by several big losses.

Young striker David Goodwillie sealed a £2m move to Blackburn earlier in the window, whilst key midfielders Buaben, Gomis, Conway and Robertson also departed.

Nevertheless, Houston brought in some solid players during the summer, with Gavin Gunning and Willo Flood in particular catching the eye.

Jim McIntyre bought shrewdly in this summer's transfer window.

Hearts

Although nobody really knows if it's outspoken owner Vladimir Romanov or manager Paolo Sergio who decides who stays and who goes, Heart of Midlothian made several important signings in the window.

However, it was Sergio's predecessor Jim Jefferies who brought Grainger, Hamill, Taouil and Sutton to the club before he was sacked in early August.

18-year-old Calum Tapping was Hearts only deadline-day deal.

Colin Calderwood's side lost key men but made some strong additions in this summer's transfer window.

Despite losing Derek Riordan, Liam Miller and Colin Nish, Calderwood brought in the prodigal sons Ivan Sproule and Garry O'Connor, as well as the impressive captures of Ghanaian striker Junior Agogo and talented youngster Leigh Griffiths.

Hibs' only deal on August 31st was the free signing of Adam Mitter from Blackpool.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle

Inverness manager Terry Butcher seems to have brought in some impressive players over the past few weeks.

Although Caley haven't had the best of starts to the new season, Tadé, Tansey, Doran and Piermayr have all looked the part as Inverness try to get some points on the board.

However, Butcher did lose top scorer Adam Rooney to Birmingham a few months back and this could be Inverness's downfall this year.

Davis and Chippendale were signed on deadline day.

Kenny Shiels was a busy man over the summer, adding 13 players to his small squad.

Although Craig Bryson was sold for a tidy profit to Derby County, Shiels bought wisely with some stellar purchases in Paul Heffernan, Dutch veteran Danny Buijs and his own son, Dean Shiels.

Killie's final day additions were the signing of youngster Stynes and another season-long loan for the impressive Dudu Sissoko.

Motherwell

9 of 12

Perhaps Motherwell's best piece of business of the window was holding onto star striker and prized asset Jamie Murphy.

The young Scottish forward was linked with a host of clubs throughout the summer but eventually stayed in Lanarkshire.

Manager Stuart McCall has somewhat surprisingly added seven players to his team despite Motherwell's well documented "shoestring budget," with Michael Higdon and Tim Clancy being the most notable.

The Fir Park club completed all their moves before the final day.

Rangers

10 of 12

Rookie manager Ally McCoist added seven players during the transfer window which now form the core of his new-look Rangers side.

However, Rangers fans were given an almighty fright in the last two days of the transfer window as a £6.5m, £7.5m and a £9m bid for Nikica Jelavic were all rejected by McCoist. Thankfully, the talented Croatian is staying put...for now.

The Govan side offloaded James Beattie in the closing minutes of the window, with Fleck, Hutton and Little all leaving on loan.

IN:

Juan Manuel Ortiz - Almeria, £500,000

Lee Wallace - Hearts, £1.5m

St. Johnstone

Derek McInnes's side look more than equipped to battle against relegation after some solid summer dealings.

The acquisitions of Robertson and Wright will add some steel to the midfield, whilst any combination of Finnigan, Sheridan, Haber and Sandaza is sure to score the Saints some goals.

St.Johnstone made no deadline-day signings.

St. Mirren

12 of 12

St.Mirren made arguably the biggest purchases of the window, punching well above their weight to capture players who could still compete at a high level.

The signings of Championship players Steven Thompson and Gary Teale, as well as the exciting Nigel Hasselbaink and the talented Jeroen Tesselaar, signaled St.Mirren's intentions this season and they haven't disappointed, with a solid eight points from six games.

Danny Lennon made no additions on the final day.
