South Florida vs Notre Dame: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Radio, Game Time and More

Andrew KulhaJun 7, 2018

South Florida heading on up to Notre Dame may not seem like a huge clash of the titans, but for Week 1 of the college football season this is going to be quite a good matchup for both teams.

The Fighting Irish are entering a season where the expectations are much higher than usual. Obviously football at Notre Dame is always a huge deal, but it seems like they have been more irrelevant than not for the longest time. The Irish come into 2011 with a ton of promise and a system that they are starting to believe in. A good start against a dangerous team that is anything but a "cupcake" will go a long way for the gold-domers.

The Bulls of South Florida will be heading up to South Bend for the first time in both schools' history. This is essentially going to be one of the biggest games of USF's season, so I expect nothing more than their very best. They are an experienced team led by talented and explosive quarterback B.J. Daniels. They are also coached by a very familiar name: Skip Holtz, former ND assistant and son of the legendary Lou Holtz.

Where: South Bend, Indiana.

When: September 3rd. 3:30 PM EST

Watch: NBC, Live Stream on GOUSFBulls.com

Listen: 970 WFLA USF, Notre Dame ISP Sports Network

South Florida Injury Report:

The big injury worth noting for USF is easily the most devastating if it becomes a lingering thing. Stud quarterback B.J. Daniels suffered a hamstring injury earlier this month. He is the key to their season, and definitely for this game. Hopefully he has been rested up and will be ready to preform at a high level.

Notre Dame injury Report:

No injuries worth noting.

BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications:

Obviously Notre Dame is the only team in this matchup that really has to worry about the BCS, but that doesn't mean that USF isn't thinking about knocking them down a few notches. As I said earlier, Notre Dame is coming into this season with high expectations, but if they can't put away USF it's going to make them look very bad, and a loss may kill their BCS hopes before they even could start.

What They're Saying: Andrea Adelson of ESPN writes about South Florida coach Skip Holtz, who obviously has a huge connection to the Fighting Irish. His father Lou Holtz won a national championship with the Irish, and is one of their legendary coaches. Skip was an assistant at Notre Dame, and is now returning for the first time as the head coach at USF.

Mike Dodd of USA Today writes about the expectations always being high at Notre Dame, and records some of head coach Brian Kelly's thoughts on the huge expectations for 2011.

South Florida Player to Watch:

Quarterback B.J Daniels has the ability to be the most explosive player on the field in this matchup. He can make defenses pay with both his arm and his legs, but how will his legs perform? He's been dealing with a hamstring injury, so it will be interesting to see if he will be hindered. If not, I expect great things out of him.

Notre Dame Player to Watch:

Senior quarterback Dayne Crist is entering the biggest football season of his life, and he has many questions to answer regarding his legitimacy. He showed signs of greatness in 2010, but had to struggle through injuries for most of the season. If he can stay healthy, the team is putting faith in the fact that he can be one of the best in the nation.

Key Matchup:

Notre Dame is coming into 2011 with a defense that many people think will be very good, and they are going to be tested right off the bat with USF's quarterback. Daniels is extremely explosive and quick. If you take away his passing game he can beat you on the ground, but if you take away his running lanes he has an exceptional arm. This won't be a walk in the park for the Irish, and we'll learn a lot about the true potential of their defense.

Key Storyline:

Skip Holtz returning to Notre Dame is going to be the biggest storyline of the game, and I can already see all the video packages that are being put together for the in-game TV coverage. It will be an exceptional storyline though, as his career was basically built and groomed because of Notre Dame. Many people will be rooting for him to pull off the upset.

Prediction: USF is going to be pumped up, and they are going to try to win this one for the coach. I think they are going to give Notre Dame a scare, but nothing more.
