Boise State vs Georgia: TV Schedule, Live Streaming, Radio, Game Time and More

Eric BowmanJun 7, 2018

The annual Chick-Fil-A Kick-Off Game features the No. 5 Boise State Broncos against the No. 19 Georgia Bulldogs.

There is so much riding on this game for both teams, and it is the perfect way to open the 2011 college football season.

The Broncos are craving some national recognition, and beating a top-tier SEC team like Georgia will put them in a great position to finally reach the BCS National Championship game.

Of course, there will always be the haters, but no matter your opinion on Boise State, this is a huge game for their program.

The Bulldogs are coming off a 6-7 season, and Mark Richt's seat is as hot as they get. Last year was Georgia's first losing season since 1996, and they know that beating a top-five team in the country will give them some much needed confidence.

Both teams a highly motivated, which will make for an excellent game. Let's dig into some specifics about one of the best games of Week 1.

Where: Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA.

When: September 3, 8:00 PM EST

Watch: ESPN, ESPN3.com

Listen: WRFC 960AM in Athens, WSB 750AM in Atlanta, KBOI 670AM in Boise

Betting Line

Boise State is the favorite at -3 1/2 according to bodog.com, which is about right. They enter the game with the more experienced quarterback, and less questions surrounding the entire team.

Boise State Injury Report

Nothing too serious for the Broncos, as only a couple of backups are banged up for the season opener. Cornerback Ebenezer Makinde is not expected to play against Georgia because of a chest injury, and No. 3 wide receiver Aaron Burks remains questionable.

Georgia Injury Report

The Bulldogs have been hit a lot harder with injuries considering more than 10 players have been hurt since the start of fall practice. Safety Jakar Hamilton is out the season with an ankle injury, and cornerback Branden Smith's status remains in the air as he nurses a foot injury, but he was seen with a protective boot outside the football complex.

Others who are questionable are full back Bruce Figgins and wide receivers Marlon Brown and Malcolm Mitchell. Players who are probable for the game but will more than likely play are defensive tackle John Jenkins, running backs Isaiah Crowell and Richard Samuel, defense end Ray Drew and tackle Austin Long.

In addition, running back Carlton Thomas has been suspended for this game due to violating team rules.

BCS/Top 25 Poll Implications

With a victory over Georgia, the Broncos can say they have beaten a quality team, and they should really go undefeated the rest of the season. If Boise State can shock the world and beat the Bulldogs, then it's smooth sailing to a BCS National Championship appearance.

Many believe that the Bulldogs don't deserve to be a top-25 team, but if they knock off the Broncos, then they can prove to everyone they mean business. Everyone looks at them like they are still the 6-7 team from a year ago, but that isn't the case at all.

It's obvious that both teams need a win this weekend, which is a huge factor for why this game is so enticing.

What They’re Saying

Georgia cornerback and kick return specialist Brandon Boykin took to Twitter to send a personal message to Boise State head coach Chris Petersen: "Dear Coach Petersen, I DARE you to Kick to me.... Sincerely, Me and my #dawgs"

Boykin has returned four kickoffs in his career, and he is one touchdown shy of the SEC record. Should the Broncos actually kick to him, then he will do his best to make them pay. However, should Boykin falter, that tweet will come back to haunt him. It was a bold move by the senior, but you have to love his confidence heading into the game.

Chick-Fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan told Brian Murphy of the Idaho Statesman that, "In talking to Chris and meeting his family, I got the impression—knowing that he's turned down some big-time jobs already—that there's a special relationship with Chris, his staff and Boise State and the fans and administrators there"

Broncos fans know that Petersen is a loyal guy, and they also know that they would be nothing without him. He's already turned down some big offers, but with Kellen Moore graduating it could be time for him to start a new journey elsewhere, which would crush Broncos fans.

Boise State Player To Watch

The Broncos lost their top two receivers to the NFL, which could be a problem for Moore. He doesn't have the comfort of those two playmakers, which is why all eyes will be on sophomore receiver Geraldo Boldewijn.

The 6'4", 204-pound wideout has been making big plays in scrimmages, and it is up to him help stretch the field for the Broncos. A year ago, Titus Young averaged 47 yards per touchdown reception, and with Boldewijn's speed and size, getting that kind of production is possible. However, with very little experience, it will be interesting to see how the young kid does in a prime time atmosphere.

Georgia Player To Watch

Mark Richt got his "dream team" recruiting class, and the biggest splash of them all was landing top-running back Isaiah Crowell. Thanks to offseason woes at the running back position, Crowell is competing for the No. 1 spot with Richard Samuel, who spent all of last season learning how to play the linebacker position.

Crowell was a highly-coveted recruit, and he enters the 2011 season with high expectations. The Bulldogs need him to be great since their leading rushers from a year ago aren't on the team, and there's no better time for a freshman to shine than in the national spotlight.

Key Matchup

Aaron Murray vs. Kellen Moore will be a great battle to watch all night. In one corner stands a senior leader who is a threat to win the Heisman, and in the other is a redshirt sophomore who shocked people a year ago with impressive numbers but failed to win when it mattered most.

Murray has done a lot of maturing in the offseason, and we'll be able to see if he can escape this game as the winning quarterback. Moore is the better quarterback because of his experience, but Murray is very motivated to finally win big games for Georgia

Both quarterbacks are great leaders that are hungry for a win, and they will have to deal with the loss of big time playmakers that helped them succeed so much in 2010.

It will be interesting to see who makes out as the better No. 11 on such a big stage.

Key Storyline

Will Boise State finally get the national recognition they so desire? And will Georgia be able to show the world they're not a program on the decline under Mark Richt?

These questions will be answered after Saturday's game, and I know I'm not the only one who has long be waiting for it.

It's difficult to say who truly needs to win this game more, which is one of the many reasons this will be the best game of the weekend.

Prediction

This is going to be a close game throughout its entirety. Don't be surprised if the first quarter is rather slow as these teams work out a few kinks on offense. The Bulldogs' defense will be much improved under second-year coordinator Todd Grantham, and the new additions of John Jenkins, Jarvis Jones and Ray Drew will greatly help.

In the end, I give the edge to the Georgia Bulldogs because they're the team with the most to lose here. They are determined to make everyone forget about the horrendous 2010 season, and beating Boise State will do that.

Isaiah Crowell shines on the national stage, Aaron Murray makes clutch fourth quarter plays, Kellen Moore will throw a costly pick late in the game and kicker Blair Walsh wins it for the Bulldogs.

Georgia wins 27-24
