College Football's 50 Most Glorious Player Names for 2011

Danny FlynnJun 7, 2018

I’ll admit that I shed more than a few tears when RB Jacquizz Rodgers announced his intentions to leave school a year early and enter the 2011 NFL draft.

I wasn’t sad because I was an Oregon State fan, and to be honest, although I respected the little guy for his ability, being on the east coast, I can’t say that I saw him play all that often during his three year career.

What I loved about Rodgers wasn’t his running style or his personality, all I simply cared about was his name.

I mean, come on.

Jacquizz Rodgers!

That’s the type of name that comes along once in a decade.

It doesn’t get any better than that, my friends.

What can I say, I’m a sucker for great athlete names and I can vividly remember the first time I ever saw Jacquizz’s name in a preseason preview magazine and thinking to myself, wow, forget about naming my kids after the Ninja Turtles, they’re going to be Jacquizz one, Jacquizz two and so on and so on.

It truly is an epic name and I’m definitely sad to see it leave the college game.

That means it’s time to find a new No. 1 player name in college football, and luckily, I think I’ve found the perfect successor, Arizona State LB Vontaze Burfict.

If you’re a sports announcer, that’s the kind of name that just screams creative nicknames.

Mr. Perfect Burfict

Truly endless possibilities.

Burfict is one of the meanest defenders in college football and he’s got the type of name to back up his physical brand of play.

You have to appreciate the uniqueness of it and it’s certainly the kind of name that deserves recognition.

Vontaze doesn’t have the only cool name in college football, though. There are plenty of players throughout the country whose names need to be appreciated.

Here’s a quick look at my 50 favorite player names for the 2011 season.
