Juventus Transfer News: Eljero Elia Leaves Camp to Head to Turin for a Medical

Adrian AgiusJun 7, 2018

After seemingly talking down Juventus as a club worthy of signing for, Eljero Elia has gone back on his word and has departed his Netherlands training camp to head to Turin to sign a contract with Serie A giants Juventus.

Elia looks set to end Juventus' long hunt for a quality left-midfield player.

According to Goal.com, the Hamburg star has boarded a "private jet that club president Andrea Agnelli sent to Amsterdam to pick up the Netherlands international." The Dutch International squad are set to face San Marino in a Euro 2012 qualifier, but nevertheless, Elia has been allowed to leave, seeing as though the transfer window shuts in less than two days.

Earlier this month, Elia crushed any rumours of a move, saying, "I've been told that there is a lot of racism in Italian stadiums and most teams play very defensive. These kinds of things play a role in my decision."

Why the change of heart? Money is most likely the decisive factor, Juventus have made it no secret that they have money to spend. Let us just hope they have learned their lesson from overspending on players, most namely Felipe Melo and Diego.

Hamburg have agreed to terms with Juventus over the deal.
