Arsenal Transfer News: Per Mertesacker in Talks with the Gunners
After their absolute hammering against Manchester United, Arsenal have finally turned to the transfer window to help solve their problems at the back.
It looks as though Arsene Wenger has turned to German centre back Per Mertesacker as a central defensive re-enforcement.
According to Goal.com, Arsene Wenger has organised to fly over the Werder Bremen captain over to the Emirates Stadium for a medical just days before the close of the transfer window. Arsenal are looking at signing the German International for a fee of €9 million, which, when you think about it, would be considered a drop in the water after the sales of Clichy, Nasri and Fabregas.

The signing of Mertesacker would prove only a small solution to the problems being faced by Wenger all over the pitch.
Although the Werder Bremen captain does not look to be the last defender likely to join the side. Renewed interest for Gary Cahill and interest in Andre Santos could restore reliability, at the very least, in the minds of fans.
Mertesacker would prove to be a very effective addition at the back for Arsenal. He is currently the first-choice centre back for German International side, and his leadership qualities would certainly not go astray amongst a young Arsenal squad.
It is believed a move for Mertesacker would see him earn €4.7 million over a four-year deal.
