Post-Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri: 5 Transfers That Could Rejuvenate Arsenal
Arsenal has been very active this summer transfer window, though that doesn't necessarily mean it was beneficial for the club. Following the high profile departures of Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, and Gael Clichy, and a bit of a stumbling start to the new season, Arsenal are in need of new arrivals.
A new center-back would add depth to alleviate some pressure off the injury prone Thomas Vermaelen and Johan Djourou, and a new left back would help fill the void left by Clichy.
The departures of Fabregas and Nasri are undoubtedly severe blow to the club's title ambitions. Losing the midfield commander and his first lieutenant have raised doubts about Mr. Wenger's transfer policy. A quality midfielder or two could really help the club rise back to the top.
RVP is a world class striker, but he, like a few other of his teammates, tends to be injury prone. What are Arsenal to do if he is injured mid-season? Chamakh is a bit of a disappointment in front of goal, and Bendtner is average at best.
Hopefully Arsenal embark on bringing in at least a few reinforcements, or else December 2012 could arrive early for the gaffer and his staff.
Mamadou Sakho- CB
1 of 7"Mama-doo" could be the Arsenal defence's savior, and Szczesny's knight in shining armor.
Strong on the ball and powerful in the air, he is also versatile as he can play at the center back and left back. He is the captain of PSG, which is a testament to his leadership skills and good attitude towards the game.
Plus he speaks French!
Mathieu Valbuena- CM
2 of 7Manchester United were recently after his signature, and he would be an excellent midfield option for Wenger.
Creative and skillful, with a good passing range, he could be the new Nasri. The Marsielle president has said he would listen to offers for the young midfielder.
Eden Hazard- RW/LW
3 of 7Young winger Eden Hazard has been touted by many as the successor to Cristiano Ronaldo.
He haz (pun intended) excellent dribbling skills and blistering speed. His silky-smooth step-overs could really be a big hit at the Emirates stadium.
It will be difficult to acquire him, but Wenger could use his former teammate Gervinho to help draw him in.
Adam Johnson- RW/LW
4 of 7With a huge influx of players every summer, it's only a matter of time before City start having to sacrifice talented young players for their more proven counterparts.
Wenger could choose this time to pounce, and acquire a quality winger in Mr. Johnson. He would doubtless prove to be a good addition to the squad.
Gonzalo Higuain-ST
5 of 7Benzema was previously wanted badly by Arsene, but he has worked his way back into Mourinho’s first-team.
This has meant his team-mate, Higuain, could now be on the market. Mourinho has publicly declared his desire to sign a new striker, with Carlos Tevez his preferred candidate. Higuain could be sold to generate the funds needed.
Higuain eould cost Arsenal a lot of money, but his signing will lift the whole team.
Wenger should definitely grab him before he is 'Gon'e!
Jack Wilshere-CM
6 of 7When searching for a replacement for Fabregas, I think Arsenal should look no further than their own team sheet.
Jack Wilshere could be the best thing to happen to Arsenal since a certain 16 year old's arrival from a certain country in the Iberian peninsula.
The young midfielder looks after the ball as if it were his first-born child, rarely losing possession and controlling the tempo of the match. The 2010-11 season is his first full campaign in the senior team, and he has not disappointed.
The left-footed Wilshere strokes the ball around the Emirates Stadium pitch as if he has been playing there for years.
Give him some time, and Arsenal fans will have a Lampard/Gerrard hybrid on their hands.
Closing Remarks
7 of 7Many pundits have written off Arsenal this season due to the loss of a few players, and this is an unfair condemnation. The players wanted out, and there is nothing the club, or its coach, could do.
Arsenal is a quality team, and their youth academy is one of the best in the world. With a few purchases, Arsenal could very well challenge for the title. My advice to Arsenal fans; keep ya heads up, the best is yet to come.
