Liverpool FC: Scoring Jordan Henderson and Other Signings on Early Season Form

Jake RoddJun 5, 2018

The new signings that are now plying their trade at Anfield are getting a mixed reception from fans. Impatience seems to be the most common trait of fans these days, a trait that only increased pressure on players.

Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Jose Enrique and Stewart Downing are the players I have been tasked to evaluate, but I'm going to include January signings Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez, just for a bit of fun.

In this article I'll rate the targets or in some cases victims, before giving an overall verdict.

Luis Suarez

1 of 7

In my previous article, I said it was unfair to compare our latest signings to this man. His impact, in short, has been fantastic. Not many players have arrived in January to be considered Player of the Year for the following season. Suarez has.

Impact: 10/10

Performances: 9/10

Potential: 8/10

Dedication: 9/10

Those ratings may well be criticised below. The impact this man had in terms of support and lifting the team were top-class. His performances too have been brilliant. His potential is lower because I don't think he can improve that much. His dedication is demonstrated by his never say die attitude and the fact that he always give his all.

Overall: 36/40 (90 percent)

Andy Carroll

2 of 7

A hefty price tag has distracted many from the talent this man has. Kenny Dalglish says in his book that he felt that buying Carroll using the fee from Torres in a space of 12 hours was formidable business; they still made a profit. Goals last season against Manchester City and a goal against Exeter this season have boosted his confidence.

Impact: 7/10

Performances: 6/10

Potential: 9/10

Dedication: 7/10

Andy couldn't start the dream career the way he would have wanted due to an injury. Since improving his fitness, his level of performance has improved, but not to the level fans would have wanted. His potential is incredibly high, he's still so young. His dedication isn't as high as it could be due to his lifestyle. Enough said.

Overall: 29/40 (72.5 percent)

Jordan Henderson

3 of 7

Jordan Henderson will be the next Gerrard, in my opinion. He has started every game this season, and is not playing as badly as everyone thinks.

Impact: 6/10

Potential: 9/10

Performances: 7/10

Dedication: 9/10

Henderson has made an impact simply by starting most games, but he has only had a significant part in one of our goals. His potential, however, is undeniable. Whether or not he reaches Gerrard's level I don't know, but I do know he'll be great. His dedication is high simply because he chose to move to a big club so young, moving away from his hometown. People have to understand that the start Henderson has had in terms of opponents has been the worst possible. A debut against your former side, followed by a trip to the Emirates is pretty tough.

Overall: 31/40 (77.5 percent)

Stewart Downing

4 of 7

Stewart Downing has arrived to fulfil the vacant winger spot. By trade Downing is a traditional winger with pace, good use of both feet and most importantly good crossing ability. He is my pick of the summer signings.

Impact: 8/10

Potential: 7/10

Performances: 8/10

Dedication: 9/10

Downing has had an immediate impact in my opinion. After nearly scoring a fantastic goal on his debut, Downing has looked the part in a red shirt. His potential is limited due to his age and he won't get much better. His dedication is almost role model standard. In every press conference he seems to impress upon fans how happy he is to be plying his trade at Anfield.

Overall: 32/40 (80 percent)

Charlie Adam

5 of 7

Charlie Adam was targeted in January but the deal never came through. Now that he is finally a Liverpool player, his performance levels have dipped slightly; however, people must remember that people don't expect Blackpool midfielders to be as good as Liverpool midfielders, so it's unfair to ask the Scott to blend in right away.

Impact: 7/10

Potential: 8/10

Performances: 6/10

Dedication: 8/10

The impact Adam has had is not as bad as some people think. He has started every game and has gelled with his new teammates without making any serious mistakes. His potential is great given he is already a great player at 26. He can go on to be one of the best, especially under Kenny Dalglish's guidance. His performances haven't really stood out to a low mark there, but his dedication seems to be admirable.

Overall: 28/40 (70 percent)

Jose Enrique

6 of 7

I realised that I missed this one out, but a comment below has got it spot on. Jose Enrique has been brilliant thus far, and his ratings are as follows.

Impact: 9/10

Potential: 8/10

Performances: 10/10

Dedication: 9/10

The impact Enrique has had has been brilliant. Filling in the left back spot, he has plugged in the whole in the Liverpool defence. With Kelly also shining, we won't concede many goals this year! His performances have been spot on, brilliant forward and defensive play.

Overall: 36/40

Conclusion

7 of 7

Keeper Doni won't get a mention seeing as I haven't seen him play, but the rest of the scores are in:

1. Luis Suarez and Jose Enrique, 36

2. Stewart Downing—32

3. Jordan Henderson—31

4. Andy Carroll—29

5. Charlie Adam—28

Remember this is only my opinion. I was considering putting Gerrard in here, seeing as he hasn't played since February and is almost like a signing himself!

Thanks for reading, comment with what you think!
