Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Listen: Jets: 1050 ESPN Radio, Sirius: 83. Giants: CBS-FM - JIP 101.1 FM, Sirius: 88.
The Giants and Jets have agreed to a deal with MetLife on stadium naming rights. Fittingly, they will open the newly named venue together on Saturday night in their annual Week 3 preseason clash.
The two teams couldn't enter the contest as bigger opposites though. The Jets come into this game relatively healthy and sporting an improved roster for the third-straight season.
The Giants have neither a healthy team nor an improved roster.
Big Blue hurt themselves with a few self-inflicted roster cuts, and they also saw two free agents that shouldn't have gotten away do just that. To make matters worse, the Giants have suffered a rash of injuries to start the 2011 campaign. The injury to cornerback Terrell Thomas might be the most damaging preseason injury across the league this year.
Alas, that is football, and these two teams still hate each other whenever they step of the field.
Jets' Key Addition: Plaxico Burress, WR
One of the Super Bowl heroes from Super Bowl XLII, Burress is now sporting a Green jersey in New York following his release from prison. The 6'5" receiver had an extremely successful debut with quarterback Mark Sanchez a week ago, and the Jets couldn't be happier with the money they spent on the former Giant.
Giants' Key Addition: David Baas, C
Big Blue cut long-time center Shaun O'Hara this summer, much to the dismay of many fans and players. It was a huge loss and something that could devastate the entire offensive line. New center David Baas comes over from San Francisco and has some mighty big shoes to fill. He needs to be very good or the Giants will have trouble in both the run and pass game.
Jets' Biggest Loss: Braylon Edwards, WR
Edwards wanted to stay in New York, but was simply too costly for the Jets after the re-signing of Santonio Holmes and the signing of Burress. Ironically, he signed in San Francisco for only one-year and one million dollars in guaranteed money. Regardless, he was one of Sanchez's favorite targets.
Giants' Biggest Losses: Shaun O'Hara, C; Rich Seubert, LG; Kevin Boss, TE; Steve Smith, WR
It is impossible to discuss just one of these losses. New York cut O'Hara and Seubert themselves and failed to give Boss or Smith the type of money they were deserved. All four players were long-time starters and key components of the offense.
What They're Saying:
The New York Daily News is saying:
"Despite Burress claiming he had no interest in signing with the Giants, a source told the Daily News that the receiver would have rejoined his former team if it had at least matched the Jets' one-year, guaranteed offer of $3.017 million.
"
The New York Post is saying:
"On the field, defensive coordinator Perry Fewell signaled he could compensate for Thomas’ absence until Amukamara comes back—most likely in October—with the three-safety alignment the Giants used successfully as an occasional change-up last season. The first-team defense opened with that look yesterday as safety Antrel Rolle moved up to replace one outside linebacker and cover the slot receiver while fellow safeties Deon Grant and Kenny Phillips played back.
"
Jets Player to Watch: Plaxico Burress, WR
In his second game back since shooting himself in the leg, Burress will look to shake all the rust possible in what is likely his last appearance in the preseason. He knows many of these Giants well, and the Giants know him. It will be interesting to see how they decide to cover him on the outside without Thomas.
Giants Player to Watch: Eli Manning, QB
It was hard to get to this point in a preview without talking about Big Blue's signal-caller, but here he is. The oft-ridiculed Eli has not been sharp so far this preseason, and he needs to get on the same page with his wide receivers early in this ball game.
Matchup to Watch: Jets' pass Rush vs. Giants' offensive line
The Giants have new starters at left tackle, left guard and center. Jets coach Rex Ryan is going to want to dial up the heat on Eli, force him to throw against Darrelle Revis and Antonio Cromartie and limit the Giants' opportunities for play action. Big Blue needs to prove successful in handling extra pass rushers.
Giants' Key Position Battle: Domenik Hixon vs. Victory Cruz, No. 3 Wide Receiver
This has legitimately come down Victor Cruz and Domenik Hixon. A year ago, Victor Cruz used the Jets as his coming out party to the world. This year, he just needs to show he understands the Giants' offense. The second-year man lined up incorrectly twice last game before making a big catch down the sideline from Eli. Hixon has the experience, but he needs to show consistency. One of these two will be replacing Steve Smith, and that is a huge role in this offense.
Jets' Key Position Battle: Nick Folk vs. Nick Novak, Kicker
Nick Folk is expected to get the job, but Nick Novak is making things awfully difficult for him. Practice reports continue to discuss Novak's ability to match Folk kick-for-kick. Should Folk slip just a little bit, don't be surprised to Novak get an extra opportunity.
Key Storyline: Playing Time for Starters
The third preseason game gives us the longest look at the projected starters for the season. In regards to the Giants and Jets, they actually play each other during the regular season this year, and I wouldn't expect to see a ton of things shown in the game. Both clubs want to see their players perform well, but also don't want to show too much of what they'll use in the regular season.
Prediction: Jets 24, Giants 23
