Georgia Football 2011: News, Notes and Updates from Camp

Brian JonesJun 7, 2018

With the opening game for the 2011 season only a little more than a week away, Georgia's preseason camp has been on fire when it comes to the level of intensity.

Because of that, minor injuries have mounted for the Bulldogs, which is common for this point of camp.

Also, with the game against Boise State inching closer, players took part in a scrimmage against a mock Bronco team, and the ending was one that you wouldn't expect.

Also, one member of the Dream Team is in prime position to start for the Bulldogs on opening night. I think we all know who that is.

These stories and more are some of the top news and notes from camp this week.

The Pro Combat Uniforms Revealed

1 of 5

Earlier in the week, Georgia revealed their new Nike Pro Combat Uniforms that will be worn during the Boise Sate game.

The initial reaction from fans was negative, but the players like the new change.

Will it be something that the players wear again this year? No, but it's a one-time thing, and head coach Mark Richt wanted to reveal the jersey now just to get it out of the way.

Isaiah Crowell Continues to Impress

2 of 5

Make no mistake about it, Isaiah Crowell will play in the opener on Sept. 3. The question is, will he be the starter or backup?

Crowell suffered a groin injury last week, but he has recovered and made some nice runs and great catches in practice.

Crowell has seen the majority of snaps with the first-team offense, so if he continues to work hard in the final week of camp, he will be the starter for the kickoff game.

Bulldogs Enter the AP Poll at No. 19.

3 of 5

The AP poll was released last Saturday, and Georgia comes in at No. 19.

This is not a surprise to anyone, but what is interesting is they are the only team ranked in the top 25 that ended with a losing record last season.

It's just shows how high some experts are on this team. And when the season is over, don't be surprised if the Bulldogs are ranked in the top 10 if everything goes according to plan.

Injuries Continue to Add Up

4 of 5

There haven't been any major injuries to report, but the minor injuries have piled up camp began.

John Jenkins has been sidelined this week due to a hamstring injury, and Marlon Brown has also been out of action because of an ankle injury.

Freshman Malcolm Mitchell suffered a hip injury last week, but he returned to practice on Wednesday. The one injury to keep an eye on is Richard Samuel, who has been slowed by a quadricep injury. He should be able to go on Sept. 3, but whether he'll be the starting running back is up in the air.

Bulldogs Defeat Boise State in a Scrimmage

5 of 5

It wasn't the real Boise State, but the Bulldogs did defeat a scout team that looked like the Broncos in terms of the run-on offense and defense.

The Broncos were up 31-0 at the half. But Georgia was able to rally and come away with a 38-34 win an Sanford Stadium.

Isaiah Crowell had 54 yards on six carries and one touchdown, and Aaron Murray was 5-of-9 with 79 yards.

On defense, Abry Jones was the star with three tackles and two sacks.
