Chelsea's Top Five Premier League Moments Against Norwich

Will J BakerJun 3, 2018

Andre Villas-Boas secured his first competitive victory as Chelsea manager with a 2-1 home defeat of West Bromwich Albion.

The next hurdle for Chelsea to jump is a Stamford Bridge match with newly promoted Norwich City, managed by Paul Lambert.

The Norfolk side have an impressive top-flight pedigree and actually finished third in the inaugural Premier League season in 1992-93.

But Chelsea has always enjoyed a dominance in this fixture and will be the overwhelming favourites going into the match this Saturday.

Here are Chelsea's five greatest moments in Premier League action against Norwich.

5. Stunning Frank Lampard Drive in 2004

1 of 5

Frank Lampard had a standout season for Chelsea in 2004-05 as Jose Mourinho's men marched to their first ever Premier League title.

Lampard scored 13 league goals and the majority of those strikes came from outside the penalty area.

This stunning drive against Norwich was the pick of the bunch and sent Chelsea on their way to a comfortable 4-0 win over the Canaries.

4. Mateja Kezman Scores Late Winner To Tighten Chelsea's Grip on the Title

2 of 5

As the 2004-05 season drew to a close, Chelsea's comfortable lead at the top of the table was being threatened by Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson was waiting for the relative inexperience of Chelsea to cost them the title as had happened with Newcastle in the past.

But that blip where the club dropped costly points never came, and the club would go on to win the league title.

But in a midweek visit to Carrow Road, Chelsea was struggling to break the deadlock of 1-1 for that vital three points.

That is, until the misfiring Mateja Kezman showed the striker's instinct and composure in front of goal that caused the club to sign him.

It was one of Kezman's only goals for Chelsea and the celebrations that ensued made it one to remember.

3. Joe Cole Scores Brilliant Solo Goal

3 of 5

Joe Cole really came of age as a player in 2004-05 when he went from an inconsistent trickster to a hardworking midfielder.

This strike against Norwich characterized this change in mentality brought about by the man-management of Mourinho.

Cole would win the ball with a sliding tackle and then show his strength to ride another challenge before slamming it home with his weaker left foot.

2. Arjen Robben Completes a Perfect Team Move in 2004

4 of 5

Injuries ultimately prevented Arjen Robben from becoming a Chelsea legend, but he lit up the Premier League during a period of fitness in 2004-05.

The Dutchman's trickery and pace seemed impossible for defenders to deal with, and he contributed many goals and assists at this time.

My personal favourite and arguably the best goal of Robben's Chelsea career came against Norwich, in the same match as Lampard's long-range strike.

It was a wonderful team move that Robben started and after clever touches from Lampard and Tiago, the Dutchman finished it off with a stunning volley.

1. Gianfranco Zola's Backflick Volley

5 of 5

Gianfranco Zola will go down as the greatest foreign import in Chelsea's history and was voted the best Blues player of all time by the fans.

His close control and dribbling skills combined with a sense of cheek and a willingness to take risks on the ball made Zola a special player.

This goal is up there with the finest strikes in Premier League history and is certainly one of Zola's greatest ever goals.

It just summed up what the little Italian magician was all about, so watch and enjoy!
