Boise State Football 2011: Kellen Moore & the Broncos Last Shot for a BCS Title

Randy ChambersAug 24, 2011

The Boise State Broncos have been one of the nations hottest teams over the last few years and are always in the BCS National Championship conversations.

You can expect more of the same entering this season.

The Broncos enter this year ranked No. 5 in the country in the AP Poll, after going 12-1 last season and finishing with the No. 2 offense and the No. 2 defense.

This team is one of the most experienced teams in the country with 17 seniors on its roster that are starting.

Out of those 17 include Heisman candidate Kellen Moore at quarterback. Moore has thrown for over 10,000 yards and 99 touchdowns in his three-year career and is 38-2 as a starter.

But there is only one game he hasn't won and that's the one he wants to win the most.

That's the National Championship.

The Broncos have come close with a couple of teams but they either lose a game to ruin their case or voters do anything possible to try and keep them out of the big game.

Voters don't like Boise State because of their strength of schedule. The Broncos play in the MWC where there isn't a lot of competition, so, their schedule consists of more cupcakes than a second grade birthday party.

Some also don't want to see Boise in because they are not a "traditional" big school like a Ohio State, USC, Florida, Michigan, etc.. It would hurt the TV ratings if they are put on a national big stage.

The Broncos do have a weak schedule again this year with the exception of Georgia, TCU and maybe San Diego State. So, in order to be considered for the title this season they'll have to go undefeated.

No hiccup like the game against Nevada last season.

That also means they'll have to beat a talented Georgia team Week 1 in their house.

There's no question they have the talent to make it happen. Heisman candidate at quarterback, 1,000 yard rusher returning, solid receivers and a defense that led the nation in sacks and ranked second in college football.

This team is loaded.

But the Boise teams from years past have been as well and they barely sniffed a BCS Bowl.

There are 17 starting seniors on this team that is fun to watch and all of them want the chance to win the BCS National Championship. The players doing their part is only half the battle. Question is, will the voters finally budge and let them in?
