Arsenal Transfer News: Why the Gunners Will Be Better Without Fabregas, Nasri

Chris SiddellJun 7, 2018

In the words of Lance-Corporal Jones: “DON’T PANIC!”

Arsenal have lost their captain Cesc Fabregas and winger Samir Nasri after a summer of long transfer sagas and negative press for Arsene Wenger.

However, has anyone stopped to think that maybe he’s doing the right thing?

Arsenal may have lost out to Liverpool in their first home outing, but the game was evenly matched until debutant Emmanuel Frimpong was sent off. Indeed, it was only when Arsenal went down to 10 men that a Liverpool team, who have spent over £100 million in the past nine months, were able to take control and win the match.

Letting Fabregas and Nasri leave could well be one of the smartest moves Wenger has made in the last few years, as he looks to make an attack on silverware with a refreshed and youthful team.

Despite all the negative press and a large number of fans revolting against Wenger, Arsenal don’t know how good they’ve got it.

This is a team with a solid financial structure that is feasible. It's a club that can run as a business without the need for multimillion pound investments, even though majority-shareholder Stan Kroenke is more than capable of it.

On top of that, there is a fantastic new stadium and a team in the Champions League.

Look at Sunderland—they have spent significantly more than Arsenal in the past four seasons, and yet they find themselves struggling to stay mid-table. Wenger is a man who knows what he is doing.

Fabregas had become a distraction for Arsenal. While he was and still is a great player, and an important part of the team, it's possible that he had become too important.

An attitude among fans seemed to be spreading through the squad that without Fabregas, Arsenal could not win, create or compete. When a team relies so heavily on one player, it is a very bad thing.

With Fabregas gone, Arsenal can now focus on playing as a team and winning as a team once again.

Yes, they will have a hangover. Results against Newcastle and Liverpool have shown that, but Arsenal will come out stronger and better than ever.

Wenger is a very intelligent man and he knows there is no place in his squad for a player that wants away—he knows better than that. He won’t risk unsettling the whole squad for one or two players, no matter who they are.

Nobody is irreplaceable.

As for finding Fabregas' replacement, who needs one?  The midfield is strong enough and capable down the middle.

Don’t worry about Fabregas; worry about Nasri.

Players like Wilshere, Ramsey, Frimpong and Lansbury are strong British talents coming through the ranks. They are all capable of performing on the biggest of stages. With Alex Song and Abou Diaby in there as well, the centre of midfield looks fine to me.

Samir Nasri created just one goal in the whole of last season. One assist.

Who could possibly accuse Wenger of being a lunatic or not knowing what he's doing if he sells Nasri for over £20 million and brings in another player like Eden Hazard?

A slow start is almost certain for the Gunners this year, but after a summer of back and forth with Barcelona and Manchester City respectively, and the opening fixtures dealt to Wenger, nobody could have expected anything else.

The young squad will gel along with more senior players like Song, Sagna and Van Persie to create a new Arsenal—a post-Fabregas Arsenal. Within 18 months, people will be wondering what all the fuss was about. Arsenal will be no worse off without him or Nasri, and they are likely going to improve.

And as if that isn’t enough, Wenger will still have made a few quid on the transfer market. Again.
