Michigan Football: 5 Big-Name Recruits Who Could Still Go Blue

Austin FoxJun 7, 2018

Michigan's 2012 recruiting class so far is simply amazing, as it currently ranks second in the country behind Texas. The Wolverines have 22 players committed, and among them, 11 are four-stars.

Michigan will be looking to take only a few more players, and here's a look at the five biggest names that could realistically fill those final spots.

5. Danny O'Brien (Flint, Michigan)

Even with the recent addition of Ondre Pipkins, Michigan could use some help at the defensive tackle. Danny O'Brien could certainly help fill that need.

He grew up in Flint, and Brady Hoke would love to keep this kid in-state. However, O'Brien is very high on Tennessee, and some even believe that they're the team to beat.

O'Brien doesn't have an announcement date set, but when he does announce, Michigan will have just as good of a chance as anybody.

4. Amara Darboh (Des Moines, Iowa)

With Ondre Pipkins filling a huge need at defensive tackle, Michigan's biggest need has now become a wide receiver. They currently don't have any committed, and will be looking to take at least two.

Amara Darboh would be a very nice addition if they could land him. He is from nearby Iowa, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he commits to Michigan, seeing as how well they've recruited the Midwest.

Darboh is the type of playmaking receiver that Michigan needs, and landing him would fill their biggest need, a big-time receiver.

3. Jordan Payton (Westlake Village, California)

As mentioned earlier, Michigan needs a big-time receiver in this class, and Jordan Payton could certainly help fill that hole. He is rated as one of the top 100 players in the country, and seemingly every big-time school has courted him.

He had been committed to USC for a while, but recently decommitted and is looking to make visits elsewhere. He will be visiting Michigan this fall and actually came out publicly and said that the Wolverines are his new No. 1 choice.

This is great news for Michigan fans. The Wolverines would love to take at least two receivers in this class, and Payton is the best one at which they have a realistic shot.

It will be interesting to see whether Payton commits or not on his visit to Ann Arbor this fall.

2. Yuri Wright (Ramsey, New Jersey)

4 of 5

Unfortunately, there is a lot of talk that Terry Richardson may decommit, which would open the door for another cornerback. If Richardson does end up going elsewhere, Yuri Wright would easily be Michigan's newest target.

He is rated as the third best corner in the country, and the 41st best player overall. Everybody on the East Coast seemingly wants him, as he has scholarship offers from plenty of big-name schools.

Landing him would be huge for Michigan's secondary. Even though it would be unfortunate if Terry Richardson does decommit, it may be worth it, especially if it means getting Wright.

1. Joshua Garnett (Puyallup, Washington)

5 of 5

Michigan's 2012 class currently owns the best group of offensive linemen in the country, and adding Joshua Garnett would only make it better.

Kyle Kalis is one of the best offensive lineman in the country, and Garnett is only slightly behind him. Both linemen are rated as two of the best 25 players in the country.

With Adam Bisnowaty basically eliminating Michigan and Jordan Diamond not wanting to commit anytime soon, Garnett is beginning to appear as the most likely candidate to fill Michigan's final offensive line spot.

He will be visiting this fall, and fans will be watching closely to see if he chooses to be a part of this great 2012 class Michigan is recruiting.
