Will the Jordan Jefferson Controversy Affect LSU Title Hopes, Poll Rankings?

LSU is ranked fourth in the AP Poll and aspires to a BCS National Championship.

But if you haven't heard, according to the Associated Press, four LSU players—quarterback Jordan Jefferson, wide receiver Jarvis Landry, offensive tackle Chris Davenport, and Josh Johns—have been accused of fighting outside a bar in Baton Rouge and will meet with police on Tuesday.

Multiple witnesses the alleged victim claim that Jefferson kicked said victim in the head while the victim was on the ground.

If the allegations are true and the Tigers lose Jefferson, can the team have a successful season? The answer is yes.

First off, LSU still has a great defense with John Chavis calling the shots. Seven starters return from last year's unit which allowed just 18 points per game. The Tigers' young but talented defensive line and great secondary will keep games close no matter who plays quarterback this year.

Secondly, Jordan Jefferson was never really a great quarterback in the first place for the Tigers. Averaging just 155 passing yards a game isn't going to get it done in the SEC. He is a good athlete, but needs to refine his skills to change games at the quarterback position.

Enter Zach Mettenberger. The sophomore and junior college transfer only lacks experience; if given the starting job, he will use his NFL arm and great size to make all of the tough throws to athletic wide receivers like Rueben Randle and Russell Shepard.

The Tigers need to pick a quarterback fast, as its opener against Oregon is in less than two weeks. In this game and the ones that follow, the players on the field, not fallout from the Baton Rouge bar fight, will determine LSU's fate.
