College Football Rankings 2011: Predicting How the Top 25 Will Look After Week 1

Randy ChambersSep 1, 2011

College football is finally here, and fans can't wait for their favorite team to hit the field for the first time.

With the AP Poll released, there are a lot of teams worthy of their current spot but a few teams that aren't. As the weeks go by, the real teams will begin to prove their worth while the fake will continue to fall down the rankings.

A majority of the week one matchups are against cupcake teams, so don't expect any major changes.

Here is how the AP Poll top 25 will look after week one.

25. Georgia Bulldogs

1 of 25

The Georgia Bulldogs lose to the Boise State Broncos and fall six spots to No. 25. Although they remain in the top 25, things aren't looking good with a game against the South Carolina Gamecocks next week.

24. USC Trojans

2 of 25

The Minnesota Golden Gophers may have a decent basketball program, but football, not so much. That's the reason they lose to USC.

23. West Virginia Mountaineers

3 of 25

After an ugly offseason, the Mountaineers can finally get back to work, and they start with a victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd.

22. Auburn Tigers

4 of 25

No, Auburn doesn't have Cam Newton and company, but this new look Tigers team won't need them to beat the Utah State Aggies.

Move up with the Georgia loss.

21. Florida Gators

5 of 25

The Florida Atlantic Owls can't even compete in the Sun Belt conference. No way they go into the swamp and stand a chance against the Gators.

Florida moves up with a Georgia loss.

20. Missouri Tigers

6 of 25

Quarterback James Franklin doesn't have to show everybody he's able to fill Blaine Gabbert's shoes against Miami of Ohio.

When week four arrives, that will be a different story.

19. TCU Horned Frogs

7 of 25

A new look TCU team receives a shocking upset by the Baylor Bears on national television. That's the reason they are so low in the rankings.

The Horned Frogs are still a good team, but losing majority of their team on both sides of the ball will take some getting used to.

18. Mississippi State Bulldogs

8 of 25

Mississippi State moves up one spot with a win over one of the worst teams in the country in the Memphis Tigers.

They can suspend all the players on the team and still walk away with a victory.

17. Ohio State Buckeyes

9 of 25

The Ohio State Buckeyes get to take all of their anger and frustration out on the poor Akron Zips. They also get to move up a spot in the rankings with the TCU loss.

16. Michigan State Spartans

10 of 25

A cupcake victory over the Youngstown State Penguins is enough to move the Spartans up one spot in the rankings.

15. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

11 of 25

The Fighting Irish get off to a rocky start but end up winning against the South Florida Bulls. They move up one spot with the TCU loss and get ready for a huge game against the Michigan Wolverines.

14. Arkansas Razorbacks

12 of 25

Tyler Wilson and company get some practice in as they pound the Missouri State Bears into the ground. They move up one spot with the TCU loss.

13. Virginia Tech Hokies

13 of 25

The Virginia Tech Hokies won't let what happened to Michigan in 2006 happen to them. They take care of the Appalachian State Mountaineers with ease and continue to cruise through a very easy ACC schedule.

12. South Carolina Gamecocks

14 of 25

The East Carolina Pirates may be able to score on the little schools like UAB and Tulsa, but the Gamecocks are going to be too much for them.

South Carolina stays put.

11. Wisconsin Badgers

15 of 25

Wisconsin begins their quest of winning the Big Ten with a victory of the UNLV Rebels, although they still stay in the No. 11 spot.

10. Nebraska Cornhuskers

16 of 25

Nebraska has issues with their quarterback, offensive line, and their secondary, but those issues won't show up against the Chattanooga Mocs.

The Cornhuskers stay in the top ten, for now.

9. Oklahoma State Cowboys

17 of 25

The Cowboys stay in the same spot as they were before they played Louisiana-Lafayette. But that's not without showing off their impressive offense against the poor Ragin' Cajuns.

8. LSU Tigers

18 of 25

Can't have the Tigers fall that far in the rankings after a loss to a good team in the Oregon Ducks.

But if things don't get better for this team, they could find themselves out of the top 25 with a brutal schedule ahead.

7. Texas A&M Aggies

19 of 25

I know all the talk with this team is about them moving to the SEC, but they are in the top ten this season. Can we please focus on that just a little bit?

This team can do some things. We can worry about next year, next year.

6. Stanford Cardinal

20 of 25

How many touchdowns you think Andrew Luck throws on a San Jose State team that gave up almost 35 points a game last season?

It may very well be the number they're ranked after they beat them.

5. Florida State Seminoles

21 of 25

The Seminoles are back!

They move up one spot and sneak into the top five with LSU losing and a beat down over the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks.

4. Boise State Broncos

22 of 25

With the LSU Tigers losing and the Boise State Broncos defeating the Georgia Bulldogs, Kellen Moore and company move up to the four spot.

It's now smooth sailing from here because they don't have a game to worry about till November, when they play TCU.

3. Oregon Ducks

23 of 25

The Oregon Ducks have probably the most difficult game of anybody this week, although they should win because they're returning their key offense players and score 87 points a game. They are also a team that is not going through a much a drama like the LSU Tigers are.

It would be the most impressive win of the week, but I don't see the Ducks jumping Alabama or Oklahoma without them losing.

2. Alabama Crimson Tide

24 of 25

Alabama is one of the most balanced teams in the country, with a great offense and a remarkable defense. With the Kent State Golden Flashes heading to Tuscaloosa, it doesn't appear that Alabama is going anywhere, at least for this week.

Kent State, a team in the MAC, are going to play the toughest team they'll face all year, and this game will probably be over by the end of the second quarter.

1. Oklahoma Sooners

25 of 25

The Oklahoma Sooners play the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes, who have a great offense, but Oklahoma has that and a stifling defense that only gave up 21 points per game last season.

Tulsa will put up a fight maybe until halftime with their explosive offense, but they simply don't have the defense to match up.

Oklahoma should win this game by at least two touchdowns, considering they are the more complete team and stay ranked No. one overall.
