Michigan Football: 5 Reasons Brady Hoke Will Pay Immediate Dividends

Austin FoxJun 7, 2018

Without a doubt, Brady Hoke will win big at Michigan.  For some, the question is how soon?  Nobody can answer that question quite yet, but the chances are that it will be sooner rather than later.  This 2011 team will be a solid, well coached group.

Here is a look at the five biggest reasons why Brady Hoke will succeed in 2011.

5. The Schedule Sets Up Favorably

1 of 5

Fortunately, Michigan plays eight home games in 2011, compared to only four road games.  Brady Hoke will make the Big House a place that opponents fear again, beginning this year.

It is a very realistic possibility that Michigan only loses one home game this year.

All four of their road games are tough, with trips to Northwestern, Michigan State, Iowa and Illinois.  The Wolverines would have to be happy splitting those four games.

Another convenient thing about the schedule is that they miss both Wisconsin and Penn State.  However, they also miss Indiana, who easily looks to be the worst team in the Big Ten.

If Michigan can take care of most of their business at home, and win one or two games on the road, it'll prove that hiring Hoke was the right move.

4. There's More Talent Than People Realize

Some people will say that Michigan's defense was so bad this past year because they did not have talent on that side of the ball; that statement is wrong.  The main reason their defense struggled was because of a lack of solid coaching.

If you look at the players they have on defense for 2011, there are actually some very talented guys.  The most talent resides along the defensive line, where Mike Martin is an absolute stud.  Both Craig Roh and Ryan Van Bergen are solid players, while Will Campbell is bursting with potential.

Kenny Demens is easily Michigan's best linebacker, as he was a former 4-star recruit.  Cam Gordon should turn into a solid player, while young Jake Ryan is exploding with potential as well.

Whether Troy Woolfolk plays corner or safety this fall, he should be a very solid player.  Carvin Johnson should turn into a star at safety, as should young Marvin Robinson.  Say what you want about Jordan Kovacs, but he has probably proven that he is good enough to be a big contributor.

Michigan will not be lacking talent this fall.  Brady Hoke will use the talent that he has on defense, and will turn them into a solid unit.

3. He Will Get the Most out of His Players

3 of 5

One thing that really bothered fans about Rich Rodriguez was how he wouldn't always necessarily use his players the correct way.  This was most evident on offense, as neither Steven Threet nor Nick Sheridan were capable of running the spread offense.

This is one thing that Brady Hoke will do correctly.  He will get the most out of his players, by using them the right way.  Denard Robinson will not be running as much, which will save his health tremendously.

Not only on offense will he use his players correctly, but on defense as well.  There were some players in Rich Rodriguez's defense who were not suitable to be playing the position they were playing, which was evident by the many position changes.

Some of the biggest position changes on defense under Rodriguez were Cam Gordon moving from safety to linebacker, Craig Roh from linebacker to defensive end, and Carvin Johnson from SPUR to safety.

Whatever position Brady Hoke puts players at on defense will certainly be where they are best suited to play.  He will get the most out of his players this fall, which will translate to more victories on the field.

2. His Attitude

4 of 5

Brady Hoke has the absolutely perfect attitude to be Michigan's head coach.  Toughness, physicality, and accountability is what he teaches.

Losing will simply not be accepted.  Honestly, there may not be another person who's attitude is better suited for this job.

He knows what it takes to win, having been successful at both Ball State and San Diego State.

Even though he is tough on his players, it's for their own good.  The kids understand that, and that's why they respect him so much.  The players will embrace his attitude, and it will show on the field.

Hoke has said and done all the right things so far, and hopefully his attitude never changes.

1. He's a Michigan Man

5 of 5

Brady Hoke is a true Michigan Man.  He understands this university, and is the absolute perfect man for the job.  After what happened with Rich Rodriguez, some people believe that you can't have success here if you're outside of the Michigan family.

Unlike Rodriguez, Hoke will have the support of the fanbase and boosters again, which will help him tremendously.

He understands what it takes to win at Michigan, as he was once part of the coaching staff.  He knows the culture of the Big Ten, and realizes that you have to be physical up front if you expect to win.

Hoke will have this looking like the Michigan teams of old in no time.
