College Football Recruiting 2012: Bad Commitments That'll Lead to Transfers

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

I never really like doing lists like these, because it's always very tough to predict which recruits could end up transferring in college. Yet, it's a good piece for speculation and wonder.

Sometimes a recruit commits to a school and can't beat out the incumbents, and thus, don't see the field as quick as they would like and leave the program.

For this read, we're going to take a look at a couple recruits that may fit the bill.

Darreus Rogers, WR

1 of 3

Rogers is a commit to hometown USC, yet Arizona State, Miami, SMU and Hawaii are in contention. He really digs the Trojan program and says "They'll always be my No.1."

I'm not sure if that's going to be case when he enrolls at USC. With George Farmer, Robert Woods, Victor Blackwell and Kyle Prater already at Troy, that's a tough trio to beat out, and Rogers would need to be Superman to beat out Woods.

But now, the rise of Marqise Lee in camp has made Rogers' pledge even more questionable in my eyes. Lee has wound up at WR and not safety, and observers say he has looked terrific as a true freshman.

Not sure if there's going to be enough balls to go around for Rogers anytime soon at USC.

Trevor Knight, QB

2 of 3

Knight is a 6'2", 200 pound QB that de-committed from A&M to switch to Oklahoma. He's got a quick release and some moxie to his game.

Knight has a skill set that will make him a contender for the starting job in Norman. Only thing is, Blake Bell has a good amount of favor with the Sooner coaching staff and will have been at OU for three years when Knight arrives.

Toss in Archie Bradley and Kendal Thompson as competitors, and Knight will have a fight on is hands to get on the field for the Sooners.

Zeke Pike, QB

3 of 3

Pike has an NFL-caliber make up: great size, cannon for an arm, solid athleticism and confidence in his abilities. He's 6'6", 225 pounds and had a slew of offers from major programs.

Yet he chose to commit to Auburn, which speaks volumes to Gene Chizik and his staff's ability to recruit since they just signed Kiehl Frazier in 2011, who was ESPNU's No.2 QB last year.

Frazier has a leg up on Pike two-fold, as for starters, he'll already be at Auburn a year before Pike comes around. Then Frazier has experience running Gus Malzahn's system dating back to his high school days in Arkansas.

It may be tough for Pike to beat out Frazier when they compete for the starting job, and I don't think Pike is coming to The Plains to be a back up.
