The Top In-State College Football Recruits Major Programs Can't Let Slip Away
One of the first rules of recruiting for a program is to put a fence up around your backyard and state. No players get out from up under you that you want, and other rival schools know to not even try going after a big name player in your state.
Well wishing.
Schools go all out for any recruit they want, including recruits in their rival's territory. That's why as a program you can't let a major in-state recruit slip away.
Here are some top in-state prospects that major programs have to get.
Jordan Jenkins, DE
1 of 6Jenkins is a 6'3", 250 pound DE prospect from Georgia. The Bulldogs are battling the likes of Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, Georgia Tech and Alabama.
Being from the Peach State, Jenkins is a crucial get for the Yellowjackets and Bulldogs. But especially for UGA, as they have had some in-state whispers surface about a leaky fence.
Some say Georgia is the favorite while others say it's Florida.
Quay Evans, DT
2 of 6Earlier this year Evans went on record in that in-state Mississippi State was the leader, but Alabama, LSU, USC and Oregon are also being considered.
Toss in the notion that he also likes Ole Miss, and you see that chances are he may stay in Mississippi. MSU already nabbed Nick James, so getting another in-state major recruit at DT would be huge for Dan Mullen.
Don Bosco Prep Core Four
3 of 6Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey is home to four of the top 110 players in America. DE Darius Hamilton, CB Yuri Wright, WR Leonte Carroo and DS/LB Elijah Shumate are wanted men by every college in the country.
The key school is Rutgers, although Wright says he is a New Yorker and feels no obligation to "stay home" and attend Rutgers which is in New Jersey.
But if the Scarlet Knights can land two of these four players, that would be a huge feat. They do lead for Hamilton, who's the highest rated player in the group.
Kwon Alexander, OLB
4 of 6Alabama and Auburn already saw Florida State come onto their turf and steal away Chris Casher and Jameis Winston, so they can't afford to lose Kwon Alexander, can they?
Alexander is the top LB prospect in the country and has the Tide and Tigers in his top six along with FSU, LSU, Miami and Oregon.
Both schools would absolutely love to have Alexander, yet there is a chance he may leave the state. Neither 'Bama nor Auburn can afford to let him slip away.
Josh Garnett and Zach Banner, OLs
5 of 6Garnett and Banner are each Washington natives, and yes, the Huskies are recruiting both big OL's extremely hard. Scout.com considers both players five-star recruits.
While U-Dub is on both Banner and Garnett's minds, so are other schools like Auburn, Michigan, Notre Dame and Florida State, among a slew of others.
It'll come down to staying home or venturing off to play college football for both.
Dorial Green-Beckham, WR
6 of 6Green-Beckham is the top recruit in the nation according to most and has an offer from just about everybody you can name.
However, he doesn't want to leave too far from his hometown of Springfield, Mo.
That makes Missouri a prime contender for the 6'6", 220-pound WR. However, so are Oklahoma, Alabama and Arkansas, among basically the entire country.
Stay home in the Show Me state, or leave for a new start? What will DGB do?
