Manchester United kicked off their English Premier League campaign with a 2-1 victory over West Brom and will be looking to continue their winning ways against Tottenham.
Tottenham has yet to open their Premier League Season after their match against Everton was postponed. They will get some action in prior to this match though as they are set to face Heart of Midlothian in a Europa League playoff on August 18th at 2:45 PM EST.
Biggest Storyline: David de Gea's Performance
De Gea has been very inconsistent in goal for the Red Devils and it will be interesting to see how he performs in this match. He let in two questionable goals against Manchester City in the Community Shield while he also gave up a soft goal against Sunderland.
According to ESPN, the team is rallying around De Gea and believe he will end up as a top goalkeeper. Here is what defender Chris Smalling had to say about De Gea,
"He is making some good saves. His agility and kicking are excellent, we have seen that in pre-season. He is going to be a top goalkeeper.
"
Player to Watch for Manchester United: Ashley Young
Ashley Young is the newest addition to the Red Devils and impressed in his first match under Sir Alex Ferguson. He will be playing out wide and will look to provide services and passes into the box and create as many scoring chances as he can.
Player to Watch for Tottenham: Peter Crouch
With David de Gea struggling in net for Manchester United, Peter Crouch will look to capitalize on any opportunity he gets in this match.
He is a veterean striker who has had a solid career in the EPL and with the English National Team. If there is a player on the pitch who could capitalize on an error from de Gea it is Crouch.
Key Matchup: Wayne Rooney vs. Tottenham Defense
If Tottenham is going to have any chance at being successful they are going to have to shut down Wayne Rooney.
Rooney is a human highlight reel and will be looking to make him impact on this match with at least one goal. He is an incredible athlete and can change the tide of the match within a span of minutes.
If Tottenham allows him any additional space he will certainly make them pay.
What They're Saying: According to Manchester United's Official Website, Sir Alex Ferguson believes Ashley Young will remain out wide after an impressive performance in the team's opening match.
"Ashley can play in different positions but I'm not saying it's going to happen at the moment. He's filling the left-hand side very well but there's options to play him right or off the front."The option to play him centrally is not looking great for him, though, with Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Dimitar Berbatov plus even Ryan Giggs can play there. So we're looking more at the wide positions for him.
"
According to IC Scotland, Tottenham is still open to moving Luke Modric and there is no longer a deadline on his transfer. He could still be on the team for the match against Manchester United, but there is a possibility he could be moved to Chelsea prior to the match.
"Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has told Chelsea to forget about a deadline-day move for Luka Modric but concedes the midfielder could be sold if a deal is done in good time.
Spurs are believed to have rebuffed two offers from Chelsea already, the latter thought to be worth up to £27million. Now, with the Blues likely to return with a new bid before the end of the month, Redknapp's stance has shifted somewhat, with the Tottenham chief admitting he could use any cash to bolster his squad in a handful of areas.
"
Final Score:
Manchester United 2
Tottenham Hotspur 0
