Liverpool's Ten Best Goals of 2011 So Far

Neil HarperJun 7, 2018

Hi again, I thought I'd take a break from talking about transfers and the current Liverpool team to go over, in my opinion, the 10 best goals of 2011 for Liverpool.

Of course now you've already got some in the back of your mind, but hopefully I've brought a few in here that you might not have thought of.

The videos are in ranking order from 10 to one.

Without further unnecessary explanations, let's start.

10. Kuyt's 2nd vs. Manchester United

1 of 11

This one is only in my Top 10 because, well:

a) It's against Manchester United.

b) Nani makes a terrible mistake, which gives me endless amusement.

c) It's the furthest Kuyt scores from in the entire game, maybe all season.

This game was rightly given the "game of the season" label by lfc.tv and this goal really does show why.

9. Gerrard vs. Blackburn

2 of 11

I did like this goal, mainly because it was such a terrible game I was ecstatic with anything good that happened and with Gerrard missing a penalty earlier in the match, I was glad he got on the score sheet.

Also it's good to see Gerrard still being able to score goals like that and I hope to see more this season.....without the dire performances of a game like this.

8. Torres vs Bolton

3 of 11

Yeah yeah, boo Torres I know. I know the last good goal he scored for Liverpool, the only good goal he's scored this year. It's a great cross from Gerrard and a typical Torres finish....you know from when he was actually good.

It wasn't the best way to start the new year, with Liverpool narrowly beating Bolton, and it was also the final game for Roy Hodgson who I'm glad has gone on to better things.

7. Kuyt vs. Sparta Prague

4 of 11

Believe it or not, this is the only goal Liverpool have and will score in Europe this year. It's an awful realization and one that I hope can be resolved in 2012, but there we go.

Nevertheless, this goal wasn't amazing however it did come four minutes from time and saw Liverpool through to the quarter finals of the Europa League in that typical Liverpool/European fashion.

This is one of the few highlights of Liverpool's Europa League season in my mind.

THAT WAS SPARTAAAAAA.

Sorry I had to.

6. Meireles vs. Chelsea

5 of 11

This was the goal that made Liverpool's season in the end. They didn't have a good run in the Premiership, had crashed out of the league and F.A Cup, had seen owners and managers leave and saw the threat of administration, had just got back to their feet and sold their top striker to a rival club (albeit gladly) and Torres' debut was against Liverpool.

The anticipation of Torres scoring against Liverpool was through the roof, everyone expected it to happen and for Chelsea to win comfortably.

Okay maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but for Raul Meireles to continue his fantastic goalscoring spree was beautiful, and must surely be up there on this list.

5. Maxi Rodriguez vs. Fulham (Hat-Trick Goal)

6 of 11

Okay, if anyone told me Maxi was capable of that, at the beginning of the season, I would have laughed myself through it. It was an amazing goal and ended his scoring record at the time, but what a way to go out. At that point Maxi had seven goals in three games, more than he'd managed all season before that point.

4. Kuyt's 1st vs. Manchester United

7 of 11

Okay we all know it was Suarez's goal really, Kuyt was just in the right place at the right time, and although Suarez had shown glimpses of this since he had joined, I didn't expect him to almost walk through one of the top defences in England like they weren't there.

I really liked the goal and the match. If Liverpool can play like this more I have no worries for this season at all.

3. Carroll vs. Manchester City

8 of 11

Again I was not expecting this.

I'd seen Carroll score from distance before but I honestly did not think he would shoot. Of course, I'm glad he did and it was a fantastic strike which showed that he's not just a target man for crosses and that Liverpool has a top striker on their hands.

I can definitely see more goals like this from Carroll this season.

2. Meireles vs. Wolves

9 of 11

You had to expect it to be up there, it was a fantastic strike and really why I want Liverpool to keep Meireles, because he can score goals like these and set up equally good goals as well.

This was at the time when Liverpool needed someone to step up and score goals and Meireles was more than capable of doing the job. I really hope he stays to score more like this.

Even if he does keep his stupid Mohawk.

Which takes us to No.1. Drum roll please..........

1. Suarez vs. Sunderland

10 of 11

Alright the drum roll wasn't really needed, yes this is my No. 1 goal of the season and can you blame me? It mirrored his run against Manchester United for Kuyt's opener, and then he scored from the most ridiculous angle ever, it was brilliant.

He's shown it many times last season and even once or twice already this time around. He will not give up on a run unless it's impossible to keep the ball in, and it pays off.  I could honestly just compile a list of videos of Suarez's runs. I won't, but I could.

The End???

11 of 11

So there we have it, my Mop 10 goals of 2011 so far, and I hope that there will be many more by the end of the year for me to do it again. Until then I'll be previewing the Arsenal game before Saturday, so watch this space, or wait til Friday, that's probably best.

Thanks for reading my ramblings and feel free to comment with your No. 1. goal, your own suggestions for the list or if you agree/disagree with any of mine.
