Auburn Fans To Introduce Bama Fans to Karma: Crimson Rocks Being Returned
A story broken by Yahoo! Sports yesterday linking the Miami football program to NCAA violations, it turns out, also has links to the University of Alabama's football program.
Yahoo! obtained its information during an 11-month probe, largely relying on information from former Miami booster Nevin Shapiro. It may be the single most devastating investigative report in the history of college football. Some believe this may lead to the "death penalty" for the Miami football program and may link to other sports at the university.
The problem for Nick Saban and the University of Alabama program is this: Saban this offseason hired former Miami assistants Jeff Stoutland and Joe Pannunzio. Both are accused of breaking NCAA rules during their time with the Hurricanes.
Per the Yahoo! report:
"Shapiro said he violated NCAA rules with the knowledge or direct participation of at least six coaches – Clint Hurtt, Jeff Stoutland and Aubrey Hill on the football staff, and Frank Haith, Jake Morton and Jorge Fernandez on the basketball staff. Multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports Shapiro also violated NCAA rules with football assistant Joe Pannunzio, although the booster refused to answer any questions about that relationship. Shapiro also named assistant football equipment manager Sean Allen as someone who engaged in rulebreaking.
...
The University of Alabama (Pannunzio and Stoutland), University of Florida (Hill) and University of Louisville (Hurtt) all declined to make the coaches available for interviews. Allen declined comment, calling all of Shapiro's claims "ergregious and false."
"
If those accusations are found to be true, it would place a huge stain on Saban and the Alabama program, if he were to keep Stoutland and Pannunzio on staff. Pannunzio is the current director of football operations for Alabama, so it may be at least a dark cloud if Alabama did not separate themselves quickly from the two regardless. Obviously Saban and the University of Alabama have some serious decisions to make concerning these two men.
From an Auburn fan's perspective, this story is music to the ears of Tiger faithful. Over the past year Alabama fans have been throwing stones at Auburn over the Cam Newton pay for play story; I'm surprised that they have not broken up the Capstone in order to throw more.
Bama fans should expect others including Auburn fans to attempt a link between what is going on at Miami to the Alabama program. Fair? Fair or not that is exactly what some Bama fans have been doing for months concerning Auburn, Miss State and the Newtons.
For all of the snide remarks, circulation of rumors and message board mud slinging, say hello to your new best friend, Karma. I wish I could write that with an Italian mafia accent.
Many Alabama fans have been holding on to the edge of their seats, waiting giddily for information surrounding the NCAA probe into Mississippi State's recruitment of Cam Newton. Those fans have been trying for months to accuse Auburn of out-bidding Mississippi State for Cam Newton's services. Bama fans will now attempt to spin their program's link to Stoutland and Pannunzio as nothing to worry about. Just a bump in the road to their next national championship.
Hold the press, this just in! The NCAA says there is no need to play the 2011 football season. Alabama fans have already crowned themselves king of college football. Can we please have Bama mouth piece, Danny Sheridan, to present the trophy please?
As one Bama fan posted on a popular fan board, "yawn nothing to see here." That may very well be. But to the average Auburn fan this link is enough to say to the Bama football nation, "reap it, baby!"
Bama fans beware. Don't let all of those crimson-colored stones that have been thrown at Auburn hit you right in the mouth. Hope you have a good dental plan.
Bring on Danny Sheridan, bring on the hate, Bama fans. Auburn has weathered everything you have thrown at it.
As the great University of Alabama theologian Forrest Gump once said, "Sometimes there's just not enough rocks." Well, Alabama fans are about to be accountable for all the rocks they have cast down upon Auburn. Her name is Karma, you're going to get to know her.
