EPL Hot 11: Kun Aguero and David Silva Shine in Match Day 1
Although two clubs have yet to take the pitch for the first time this season, the opening weekend of the Premier League did not disappoint.
Only one home team managed the full three points, with Manchester City's stars lining up on the score sheet in a 4-0 victory over EPL newcomers Swansea City.
We are just one match day into the season, and already it is shaping up to be an exciting year of football in England's top flight.
Every Wednesday, 11 footballers in the Premier League will make up the EPL Hot 11, a fluctuating power ranking that highlights the top performers over the course of the entire season. Dependent on their match-day performances, players may move up or down the list each week.
Sergio Aguero (Last Week: NR)
1 of 11The most expensive summer signing proved his worth at Etihad Stadium on Monday as Manchester City opened up its Premier League season against newcomers Swansea City.
Sergio Aguero came on as a substitute in the second half and made his presence felt immediately. Within 10 minutes of taking the pitch, the Argentine netted his debut goal for the club and left a lovely ball for David Silva to record his first assist.
The former Atletico Madrid star added a brilliant second goal with a long-range effort in the 90th minute.
The £39-million man has landed.
David Silva (Last Week: 3)
2 of 11David Silva won't dazzle with a ton of goals, but his role as a conductor for the free-flowing City attack makes him a critical piece to Roberto Mancini's objectives.
The Spaniard's roaming midfield style will unlock City's many options up front, including new signing Sergio Aguero, who cleverly took a ball off Swansea's endline before Silva buried it into the back of the net for City's third goal of the evening.
Sebastian Larsson (Last Week: NR)
3 of 11The Birmingham-turned-Sunderland winger Seb Larsson notched the goal of the weekend against Liverpool to bring the game to a 1-1 draw.
Larsson's falling, sideways volley stunned a Reds team that was poised to lock up a full three points against the Black Cats.
The Swede's goal is a bright spot for an otherwise limited performance for Sunderland. Steve Bruce's side caught fire early last season, perhaps this is the impetus needed for another quick start.
Ivan Klasnic (Last Week: NR)
4 of 11Ivan Klasnic may finally be coming out of the shadows for Bolton, as the 31-year-old Croatian international had a large impact in the Trotters' 4-0 win over newly promoted side Queens Park Rangers.
Klasnic's 70th-minute strike from inside the box took a deflection before finding its way into the back of the net. But it was his pinpoint through ball that led Fabrice Muamba to goal that brings Klasnic up to the fourth spot in the Hot 11.
Wayne Rooney (Last Week: NR)
5 of 11Wayne Rooney may be back.
The ultra-talented striker reverted back to his scoring ways with a goal in United's 2-1 win over the overmatched West Brom.
Rooney, along with Nani, Dimitar Berbatov, Javier Hernandez and newcomer Ashley Young, represent five of the most talented perimeter footballers in the Premier League.
Charlie Adam (Last Week: NR)
6 of 11Liverpool's only goal, though the Reds should have had two, came from a Charlie Adam set piece that found Luis Suarez just outside of the six-yard box, and a simple flick-on found the back of the net.
The club's three midfield summer signings in Adam, Jordan Henderson and Stewart Downing, all made a first 11 selection for the season debut. Downing impressed, but it was Adam's ball into the box that paved the way for Liverpool's eventual draw.
Luis Suarez (Last Week: 7)
7 of 11Liverpool's best signing of January's transfer season, Luis Suarez has brought with him to Anfield a brand of excitement.
The Uruguay international botched a penalty after courageously taking a deflection off his chest at midfield, leaving him virtually one on one with the keeper before being brought down in the box.
Suarez made up for it by recording his first goal of the season from Charlie Adam's set piece.
A double surely would have slotted the former Ajax man higher in the Hot 11, but missed penalty kicks are a no-no.
Gary Cahill (Last Week: NR)
8 of 11Gary Cahill's phenomenal strike from 20 yards out opened the scoring in Bolton's 4-0 win over QPR.
The 25-year-old has consistently been linked with a move out of the Reebok, and it is easy to see why the defender is so highly coveted.
Ashley Young (Last Week: NR)
9 of 11United's newest midfielder has made immediate impacts for the Premier League's defending champions, recording an assist and delivering a shot that led to an own goal in the club's opener against West Brom.
Young to Rooney might be a recurring theme throughout the season, as the former Villa standout provided the assist to Rooney's attempt into the side netting.
Joe Hart (Last Week: 11)
10 of 11City's keeper made clean work of Swansea City's attack, which surprisingly strung together a few legitimate attempts on goal.
Hart won't always get a four-goal cushion to work with, but a clean sheet is a clean sheet. And for the keeper who led the Premier League in clean sheets last season with 18, he is off to another good start.
Granted, it was Swansea.
Scott Sinclair (Last Week: NR)
11 of 11Former Chelsea man Scott Sinclair was dazzling in Swansea's debut in England's top flight, consistently dribbling past City's defenders on the wings.
But the 22-year-old received little help from his teammates as the Swans managed just three shots on goal.
Sinclair carried the club to promotion from the Championship with 19 goals in his first year with Swansea, but he alone won't be enough to survive the gauntlet that is the Premier League.
