The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Wenger can talk all he wants, he can say all he desires, but the truth is there for all to see. Arsenal FC are collapsing. This isn't coming from a lack of faith, but rather the obvious fact that almost the entire world is calling Arsenal FC "the world's greatest feeder club."
And rightly so.
Arsene Wenger has been one of the main culprits. While it is admirable to not put the club in a financial crisis, how many players did Arsenal get the chance to sign but didn't simply because he was worth an extra million.
Xabi Alonso comes to mind, Wenger refused to pay around £14 million for the Spanish midfielder, despite the fact that Alonso had already agreed personal terms with the club.
When the majority of players being bought are unknown players from Ligue 1 teams, it says a lot about the man's potential.
It's not related to the fact that Wenger is French, not entirely.
Wenger brought Henry from Juventus, Vieira from Milan and Sukur from Madrid. He paid reasonable prices on all of them, but in this day and age, players cost more, and Wenger refuses to move on.
Instead, the Frenchman opted to buy players with potential from Ligue 1, a league that still sells players for relatively cheap prices.
Despite the fact that there are class players like Gourcuff and Lloris in Ligue 1, the Frenchman opts for the cheaper players and has no problem waiting an extra year until he could get them on a free transfer.
This attitude has cost Arsenal, along with the lack of quality players coming in. Apart from Arshavin and Vermaelen, Arsenal saw very few old and quality players arrive at the club.
Silvestre? How on earth did he come to Arsenal?
This isn't a stab at Arsene Wenger, but how many people can deny the fact that Wenger's approach was key to Arsenal reaching this state? Not many.
The Frenchman's refusal to change with the times is alone reason enough for him to get sacked, had he been managing another club.
Forget about Man United's heavy spending, this is the day and age where Chelsea and Man City pay mad money on world class players. Fans never asked Wenger to pay mad money but certainly paying money on a world class player is an absolute necessity.
How many world class players did Wenger buy in the past few years? Barring Arshavin, none.
And how many young players did Wenger buy, nurture, and turn into world class players only for them to leave the club and show a complete lack of class by acting disloyal and stating they want out, after they stated they loved the club?
Hleb. Toure. Fabregas. Adebayour. Flamini. Cole. Bendtner. Denilson (although the Brazilian and the Dane can hardly be described as world class). Nasri (soon enough). The list goes on.
But are they the only ones to blame? Of course not.
Had Wenger opted for a world class player straight off the bat, then there wouldn't have been much of a problem once he departs. After all, he's a class player who brought the Gunners a trophy or two, he doesn't owe Arsenal anything. He paid his dues.
But to wait patiently for years, only to have a player leave on a free transfer or demand a transfer through his peasant minded compatriots is a complete lack of respect from the player and even Arsene Wenger himself.
Wenger confessed that Arsenal cannot call themselves a big club if Fabregas and Nasri leave. Well, the Frenchman has proven his intentions to settle for mediocrity time and again with such comments, and unless he brings in the perfect replacement, then there's no real hope for the Frenchman to win the league.
Wenger has less than two weeks to prove people wrong, and if history is an indication, he'll fail miserably. If he doesn't buy the world class players fans are demanding, then it's mediocrity for the Frenchman.
The Spaniard
He's finally gone, no more peasant comments from the classless Catalans and no more pathetic rumors.
Arsenal have lost a world class player, a world class midfielder, and a world class hypocrite.
He can thank Arsenal all he wants, but the Spaniard was nothing but hypocrisy during those past few years.
Had he had the courage to state his desire to leave publicly and state that he has already made up his mind, Arsenal would've bought a replacement much sooner, and if he was a decent captain and an honorable person, he would've told his compatriots at Barcelona to shut up and let the educated do business.
Things would've been much easier.
Instead, he let classless sacks of wine like Xavi, Puyol, Pique et al take one stab after another at the team he captains, without even saying a word, the team that made him who he is.
Talk about a complete lack of decency.
Arsenal might've lost a world class midfielder, a visionary, and a sub-par captain, but they got rid of a headache caused by a bunch of clowns.
He can kiss the Barcelona badge like he kissed the Arsenal badge, but Fabregas will be be remembered by the Arsenal fans as a hypocrite who could've left the club under brighter circumstances by stating his desire in public and defending the club when Barcelona's players attacked it.
He could've left the fans with great memories like the legendary Henry before him, but instead, he will be remembered like Hleb and company, as a guy who lacked the decency to do what was right.
The Fans
Their blood is boiling, and no one can blame them.
While Wenger must be applauded for protecting Arsenal from going bankrupt, the Frenchman has turned the Gunners into a feeder club, and Arsenal are currently looking mediocre.
Certainly the win against Udinese in the first leg of the Champions League was far from convincing.
The Gunners virtually had no striker up front. Chamakh was a ghost, while the majority of the defenders are highly inconsistent.
No matter how good Vermaelen is, he won't be able to bail Koscielny and save Arsenal from the Frenchman's errors all the time. And with Gibbs and Djourou injured yet again, it's time Wenger realizes that his medical team are garbage, and many of his players are made of glass.
Yet, despite all this madness, there are some positives to be taken from all that's happened.
RVP is the Arsenal captain and rightfully so. Vermaelen is his deputy, and that too is a correct decision.
If they can speed up their level of progression and increase their level of consistency, the midfield combination of Song, Wilshere and Ramsey can be better than that of Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta, especially when both Wilshere and Ramsey display talent at their ages that wasn't displayed by Xavi and Iniesta.
This doesn't however mean that the fans should calm down. They need to make their voices heard.
Arsenal need another defender because Squillaci playing for Arsenal will not lead the Gunners to trophies, Arsenal need a physical defender and an experienced one at that.
Wenger can buy all the young talents that he wants, but enough of that. An experienced, world class player is the only way Arsenal can remain calm under pressure, rather than collapse in the same manner they always have.
Also, getting rid of the real garbage, like Almunia, Diaby and the like. The fact that Fabregas left and with Nasri leaving soon, while these players are still in the squad, it is an absolute disgrace.
Wenger must clean out the trash and bring players that are worthy of wearing the Arsenal shirt, not a mediocre Spanish goalkeeper and a Frenchman who stated that he owns and wears a Spurs T-shirt.
Wenger must address the current problems at Arsenal, otherwise he'll be rightfully sacked.
His legacy at Arsenal should not come to an abrupt end, but instead, a satisfying conclusion must be reached, for the fan's sake and for Wenger's as well.
