College Football Recruiting 2012: 3 Classes Most Likely to Flop
Sometimes, for whatever reason, a recruiting class doesn't do too well, and we always ask ourselves if we saw the signs in the beginning. Whether injuries, mis-evaluations, de-commitments, coaching changes or more things happen, a flop happens to every program.
For 2012, I'm going to take a stab three classes that I think may not be so hot as people think they are right now.
No offense to anybody's favorite program.
3. Oregon
1 of 3Oregon only has eight commits right now, and although I love Jake Rodrigues at QB, this class may not get off the ground as a whole.
The looming investigation and residuals that come with the Willie Lyles alleged scandal are not doing Oregon any favors right now. It seems like some recruits have cooled on the Ducks just a tad and have started to take a wait and see approach.
Chip Kelly's 2012 class may not be one of his greatest.
2. Ohio State
2 of 3The Buckeyes have already seen one of their headlining recruits bolt to their arch rival, and there's a good chance Brionte Dunn could be the next. He says he's only committed to Ohio State "for now."
That isn't good. I think there's a chance this class could come into Columbus already defeated, especially since the NCAA has said they are still looking into the OSU overall football operation.
If laced with sanctions, these recruits could get upset and transfer or just never be truly motivated enough to produce on the field.
1. LSU
3 of 3Scout.com has LSU inside its top 10 recruiting class rankings, and that's fine and dandy. Yet I don't see any 5-star recruits in this class, and the top player, WR Avery Johnson, has been rumored to be looking around.
I like Toshiro Davis, but I don't see much "star" power in this class. I know, I know, I've been quoted on how much the star system backfires, but it is still a prevalent measuring tool in rating prospects right now.
LSU has a talented class, but there may not be much future production overall from it.
