College Football Recruiting 2012: The Top Commitment at Every Position

Edwin WeathersbyJun 7, 2018

Let's just take a quick a look at the top names that are off the board for this read, nothing too major. This is for the top player committed at the positional groups on the field for the board.

You want to know who's the best player that is pledged to a school at a certain position or what school is getting the best recruit at a certain position? This is the piece for you.

Check it out.

Safety: Eddie Williams

1 of 10

Williams is a 6'4", 205 pound safety out of Florida that is headed to Alabama. He can play multiple positions like WR, QB or OLB, but will be a great free safety in college.

His range, silky smooth athleticism and ball skills will get Nick Saban giddy. I expect Williams to be among the leaders in interceptions in the country in a few years after he learns the Tide defensive scheme.

CB: Ronald Darby

2 of 10

Darby, committed to Notre Dame, keeps getting talked about more and more at each outing. He's dazzled many observers this pring and summer with his great speed, quickness and athleticism.

He's a quick twitch type of athlete that many project to CB. I like Brian Poole, Tracy Howard, Geno Smith, Yuri Wright and a few others, but Darby's ceiling is through the roof.

LB: Reggie Ragland

3 of 10

Ragland is a player that I like a lot. He's a big LBer at 6'4", 245 pounds and is physical at the point of attack. Ragland will take on an OL, shed and make stop after stop in the box.

With Alabama running a 3-4 style defense as a base mostly, Ragland should fit well as an ILB. He plays the run well with force and instincts and also blitzes well.

DE: Mario Edwards

4 of 10

Edwards is the No.1 player in the country according to ESPNU and a prospect that will be the headliner for Florida State.

6'4" and over 260 pounds, he's a prospect that can play the run well due to his size and strength, but the big edge defender attacks the QB with tenacity, quickness and speed.

He's the next Brandon Jenkins.

DT: Malcom Brown

5 of 10

Brown is a perfect 3-technique player at 6'2", 280 pounds. He can slip gaps, penetrate fronts and play in the backfield.

He does it with great snap quickness, as Brown can jump on top OLs with a quick get off and use his nimble feet to get around them. He has some strength at the point of attack as well.

Brown is headed to Texas.

TE: Ricky Parks

6 of 10

Parks plays QB mainly right now, but it is expected that Auburn will make him a TE when he arrives.

He's a great athlete with a long frame at 6'4" and over 230 pounds. He shows long arms and soft hands when he catches the football and has good speed to scoot up the seams.

Gus Malzahn has another toy to play with.

OL: John Theus

7 of 10

6'6", 295 pounds, Theus is a nasty blocker in the run game and solid pass protector. He's a top-15 overall recruit this year and rightfully so.

Theus has quick feet and snap quickness in the run game to jump DLs and move other targets off their marks with ease. He brings his hips and drves his legs to get a push, but also has the balance and athletic ability to be productive in space.

Georgia is his pledge.

WR: Shaq Roland

8 of 10

I wanted to go with Cayleb Jones, but I went with Roland because he's a tad more solid in his pledge to South Carolina than Jones is to Texas, as the latter took a recent trip to Texas A&M.

Roland is a silky smooth 6'1", 180 pound player that has very good play speed and quickness. He has not played WR exclusively much because his team asks him to do so much, but his speed and hands will have him fit well on the perimeter.

RB: Johnathan Gray

9 of 10

Gray is my top RB in the country and top-five overall player on my board. 5'11", 195 pounds, he's the most complete and college ready runner in the country.

He possesses a gand skill set that is highlighted by production. Gray can run like a speedster on one down and the next down run like a power back. His feet, quickness, speed and instincts are elite.

He's bound for Texas.

QB: Jameis Winston

10 of 10

Winston is a 6'4", 190 pound QB with a rifle for an arm and two ostrich legs under his torso. He can beat you as a passer or as a runner.

He's a better passer than Terrelle Pryor, Cam Newton and Vince Young at this point, but is a better runner than E.J. Manuel was at this point. He has a world of potential and should be an early starter.

He's committed to Florida State.
