Alabama Football: Saban Looking Hard at Another 3-Star Athlete, Beniquez Brown

Larry BurtonJun 7, 2018

There's a lot of misconception that Nick Saban only goes after the big names. In reality, he only goes after them if they fit into his system and needs.

Nick Saban loves finding the 2- and 3-stars that have huge upsides that everybody else doesn't consider a huge star and then turning them into an All-SEC or All-American player at Alabama.

Such is the case with a player in Florence, Alabama named Beniquez Brown, a 6'2'', 215-pound athlete who plays many roles of offense and defense.

He is someone Saban sees with a huge upside.

Saban already has a top safety in the fold in Panama City Beach, Florida native Eddie Williams, and is flirting with landing perhaps the next best safety, Landon Collins, from Geismar, Louisiana.

If he doesn't land Collins, then Beniquez could be that safety. If he does land Collins, then he could use him at running back where the pack was thinned out this season.

He could also fill in as a running back or special team return man as well as a receiver. And not that Saban would recruit him for this, but he's actually not a bad quarterback either.

This is the kind of man who can plug into a lot of holes and expect him to do a very good job at each of them.

When he was in Tuscaloosa last month for a camp, he got to spend time with Saban, who worked him exclusively at safety.

Beniquez said he enjoyed his time at camp and learned a lot he could take back to his team this year but also said that the coaches said though they worked him at safety, they could also see him at running back just as easily.

He said that the coaches made him believe that if he committed he would be the one to decide whether it would be offense or defense.

Either way, he's a man that could do either and do it well.

He's already been offered scholarships to some other big schools like Florida, Georgia, Arkansas and Auburn among the eight who are vying for his services, yet Beniquez states that Alabama is his top choice at the moment.

Brown runs a 4.5 40-yard dash, benches over 300 pounds and can already squat well over 500 pounds, so he would coming to college with at least a body that prepared to see action right away.

Brown has said that he may wait until national signing day to choose, but he may pull the trigger earlier.
