Tottenham Transfer News: Emmanuel Adebayor Signed on Loan by Spurs

Mohamed Al-HendyJun 6, 2018

According to ESPN Star, Tottenham have done what seemed impossible just a couple weeks ago. They've signed Emmanuel Adebayor on a season-long loan from Manchester City.

Though neither club have yet confirmed the signing, the multiple reports on the subject seem to confirm the validity of the ESPN Star report.

In addition, it is also being reported that Tottenham have also managed to convince Manchester City to pay half of Adebayor's massive £170,000-a-week wages.

If all this does prove to be true, then I must say that I was wrong to ever question Harry Redknapp and Daniel Levy. They have been frustrating to follow this summer, but it appears that when the chips were down they were able to come through with the goods yet again.

From the reception I've gotten from Tottenham fans in my earlier writings on Emmanuel Adebayor, he's not exactly most fans' No. 1 preference from the strikers currently available on the market. Personally, however, I think he's a perfect fit for Spurs.

Most Spurs fans will think of Adebayor as primarily an aerial threat when they try to think of how Adebayor scores the majority of his goals, which is understandable considering that he has scored against Tottenham with his head on numerous occasions. But, when at his very best, Emmanuel Adebayor is an excellent scorer with his feet as well.

Imagine: Emmanuel Adebayor is Peter Crouch with the ability to dribble and score with his feet. He is everything Roman Pavyluchenko should've been for Tottenham.

Obviously, the signing of Adebayor must be approached with cautious optimism. The Adebayor of today is not the Adebayor of 2007-08. He has not been a regular starter in over a year, last season was often a frustrating figure to watch at Real Madrid as he spurned numerous good chances.

There is no doubting, however, that Adebayor can reach the heights he reached at Arsenal with Tottenham in the 2011-12 season. Adebayor is still only 27 years old, meaning he is in the prime of his career, and as long as he produces, Redknapp will likely give him plenty of starts in the league.

With Emmanuel Adebayor, the hope for a top-four league finish has been renewed, and just in time for the start of the season. Watch out English Premier League, because there's a very real chance that Tottenham may be ready to take you by storm.
