Arsenal FC: Another Youngster Signed Makes It Three This Week

Arun MJun 4, 2018

Arsenal Football Club has agreed terms with Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa to sign teenage striker Joel Campbell, according to Arsenal.com.

The 19-year-old, who was in the Costa Rica squad for the recent Copa América and the Under-20 World Cup, has chosen the Gunners despite strong interest from a host of top European clubs.

The transfer is subject to the completion of formal agreements and processes.

This transfer comes in the midst of the departure of Cesc Fabregas (ex-Arsenal Captain) to his boyhood club, Barcelona.

Until last month Gunners fans were complaining about the lack of transfer activity as the Gunners bought Gervinho and Carl Jenkinson in and Gael Clichy left to Manchester City.

The month of August has been surprisingly active for the Gunners, with Fabregas and Nasri (possibly) about to leave the club and manager Arsene Wenger looking for suitable replacements.

This week in particular has been quite a good one for the Gunners as they signed Alex Oxlade Chamberlain from Southampton, Japanese sensation Ryo Miyaichi got his work permit to play for Arsenal, Joel Campbell has signed for Arsenal, and the saga of Fabregas is about to end.

If the Fabregas transfer does not take place this week, I would suggest that Arsenal name this "Youngsters Signing Week!"

As for the new signing, I am happy as Joel Campbell looks promising, but from an overall point of view, I am a bit disappointed.

At a time when Wenger should be looking for experience and solidity, he is going for youth and once again gambling with Arsenal's trophy chances.

Take a look at Arsenal's summer signings and you will find that apart from Gervinho (24 years old), all the other signings are less than 20 years old.

Does Wenger want to field the youngest squad ever in the Premier League or in the Champions League? I have no idea!

I hope that this youngsters buying spree ends with Joel Campbell and Arsene Wenger makes some signings for the "present" of the club rather than its future!
