What to Watch for:

Chelsea Manager Andres Villas-Boas won't be getting an easy introduction into the Barclay's Premiere League. Stoke City might not be the most heralded team in the league, but Chelsea can't expect to go in and steamroll them.

Fernando Torres should be ready to go, the final lineup won't be released until about a half hour prior to the beginning of the match. Chelsea would obviously love to see him in the lineup, but after a scary concussion that rendered memory loss, they want to proceed with caution.

Stoke City is looking to secure a victory over Chelsea without the services of newly acquired Matthew Upson. The new manager for Chelsea could make for a shaky outing from the team and Stoke City will try to take advantage of his inaugural match.

The combination of Torres, Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka is going to be lethal if Torres can make his way into the match. Even with a new manager, Stoke City isn't exactly going to skate by in this match.

What's at Stake:

Chelsea is looking to get off to another hot start. Last year, they began the year 6-0. Replicating that sort of production would be a surefire way to place them in great position going forward. A 2nd-place finish won't be acceptable again.

Stoke City is taking on a top-flight EPL team with a thick history. Coming away with a great performance in their opening match would be the perfect start to their season.

We could do with desperately getting those players in as quickly as possible, but we have to do it within the structure of this football club. I can tell you we're not going for Adebayor ... (Joey Barton is) one we're not going for."

Andre Villas-Boas: "(On Thursday Torres) still couldn’t remember a couple of things from the game and before the game, but he was back in training today and is up for selection. David Luiz will still be out ... We are outlining the details (of the Lukaku deal). Hopefully Lukaku is one of those players we couldn’t afford to lose because of his potential."
