College Football Recruiting 2012: Florida's Top Targets and Commitments
Florida has had a very, very good run so far in 2012 recruiting, and they look good to many of the remaining elite prospects as well.
Could this be another historic recruiting class for the Guys in Gainesville?
Maybe so.
Come inside to take a look at the top Gator commitments and also the top Gator targets left on the board.
You doing the Gator chomp yet?
Key Commitment: Brian Poole, CB
1 of 8Poole is a player I'm very high on. With the spread offense being so apparent, any time you have a chance to nab an elite cover corner, you don't pass them up.
Poole is that, and Florida did not let him pass them by.
At 5'11" and 185 pounds, Poole is rated a full five stars by Scout.com, and has the athleticism, transition quickness, mirror ability and speed to develop into a great starting corner in Gainesville.
Key Target: Keith Marshall, RB
2 of 8Marshall is finally starting to whittle his top 14 list down as he makes plans for official visits. He has already told Notre Dame and Georgia they will see him this fall.
The third team Marshall has planned an official trip to? Florida.
Marshall is one of the best overall players in the country, and Florida has their eyes set on landing the 5'11", 190-pound RB.
Key Commitment: Jessamen Dunker, OT
3 of 8Dunker is a prospect who is going to really showcase if this new Gator staff can develop talent. Dunker has a blank canvas on a 6'6", 315-pound frame at the OT position.
He's a super athlete I can see playing various positions along the OL, including LT. With his size and athleticism, Dunker could be an NFL player in a few years should he be coached up and seasoned right.
Dunker's a former basketball player who realized his future was blocking DLs, not shooting guards.
Key Target: Ellis McCarthy, DT
4 of 8McCarthy has a top five of USC, Oregon, Washington, Cal and Florida in no specific order. Personally, I think he will eventually end up at USC, but that's my prediction.
At 6'5" and more than 300 pounds, McCarthy will take an official visit to Florida in the coming months.
Having a player from California name your school in their top five is a feat in itself, and the Gators will get their shot to convince McCarthy in person why he should move to the Sunshine State.
Key Target: Jordan Jenkins, DE
5 of 8"The Freak" is the top player in Georgia this year. He's a 6'3", 250-pound DE prospect who plays with as much burst and explosiveness as any pass-rusher in the country.
Florida is fighting it out with other schools like Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama and Georgia Tech, but speculation has it the Gators may have gotten the lead during Friday Night Lights a short time ago.
Can UF land the prized 2012 recruit from Georgia?
Key Target: Nelson Agholor, WR/DB
6 of 8Agholor may be the most athletically-gifted player in not just the state of Florida, but the country. He's a 6'1", 175-pound free-flowing player who can do what he wants on the field.
He may be a bit overrated as a player due to playing against inferior competition, but Agholor is still a key target for the Gators.
Should he wind up in Gainesville, Charlie Weis and Dan Quinn are going to be fighting over him, and Will Muschamp will have to be charged with making the final decision since Agholor could be an All-American WR or safety.
Top Commitment: D.J. Humphries, OT
7 of 8Humphries is Florida's biggest commitment. Hands down. He's a 6'6", 270-pound OT who will be a top flight LT.
As good as Jessamen Dunker could be, Humphries could be better.
He's the most athletic trench player in the nation and reminds me of Tyron Smith. Once he adds on some more weight and girth, Humphries will develop into an NFL prospect.
Period.
Top Target: Noah Spence, DE
8 of 8Spence, the 6'4", 240-pound 5-star DE, has Florida in his top seven. He told Scout.com he has great relationships with the Gator staff and likes their ideas of how to use him on the field.
Spence has not confirmed if he will be tripping to UF, but the Gators have as good a shot as any of the other six right now.
He would be a huge commitment in the sense of landing Ronald Powell two years ago.
