Arsenal Transfer News: Today's Latest Gunner Gossip on Fabregas, Nasri and Dann
Arsenal haven't been nearly as busy as their fans would have liked during this summer's transfer window, but the floodgates are about to blow open.
With potential deals sending Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas nearing deals that would take them out of the Emirates once and for all, the Gunners are likely getting a massive influx of cash in the coming days.
That's caused the rumour mill to ramp up to new heights, as everyone from Juan Mata and Jadson to Scott Dann and Gary Cahill has come into the Gunners' radar.
Join me as we break down the latest scuttlebutt surrounding the Gunners, discussing the status of their dynamic departing duo and just who the Gunners are chasing to splash the cash on.
Cesc Fabregas' Move Imminent?
1 of 6The rumours have been whipping around the Gunner captain like wildfire all summer long, as Barcelona's annual campaign to get their prodigal prodigy back into the fold at the Nou Camp has hit new heights.
For much of the summer, it looked as though the Gunners wouldn't be selling their 24-year-old midfield maestro, but a BBC Sport report indicates that the deal is now imminent.
In fact, the report states that Arsenal will be getting £35 million from the deal, £30 million from Barca, £5 million from Fabregas, and as much as £5 million more in incentives.
Even manager Arsene Wenger seems resigned to a deal being done, telling reporters:
""We hope it will be sorted out very quickly one way or the other," Wenger said of Fabregas.
"
Frankly, this one feels like a done deal at this point. Barca have managed to get close enough to the Gunners' asking price to get something done. Fabregas looks to be as good as gone, and the Gunners will be looking for a new midfielder to replace him.
Samir Nasri Set to Bolt to City?
2 of 6Fabregas isn't the only Gunner heading out of Arsenal at this stage of the game; want-away French maestro Nasri is also angling for a trip out of Emirates.
The 24-year-old Frenchman has long been linked to a move to deep-pocketed Manchester City, and after more than a month of posturing as though he would be sticking around, Arsenal are believed to be close to finishing a deal to send him to Eastlands.
According to a BBC Sport report, Arsene Wenger believes that a decision on Nasri is coming in the next few days.
""The Nasri situation is stable. Again it is very difficult to speak about possible transfers but we are in a situation where we have to make decisions one way or the other. Ideally you want it to be sorted out before the season starts."
"
Given all that we've heard on this potential deal in recent weeks, it feels like one is coming. City have made a fantastic offer to Nasri to tempt him out of Arsenal (where Wenger doesn't like to pay market value for his stars), and it seems to have worked perfectly.
The Gunners should be getting £22 million in return for the talented midfield playmaker, which will bring their haul on the two deals to approximately £57 million, which should be plenty of money for Wenger to rebuild with.
Is Gary Cahill Still on Arsenal's Radar?
3 of 6If you've followed Arsenal's transfer plans at all this summer, you know Gary Cahill. The big Bolton defender has been at or near the top of the Gunners' target list all summer, and with the cash coming in from the Fabregas and Nasri deals, surely the Gunners would be setting up to bid on the 25-year-old Englishman, right?
Possibly. While there are still rumblings about Arsenal spending the cash on the big, talented centre-back, the fact is that there hasn't been much concrete about a move to Emirates for Cahill in several weeks.
Logically, Arsenal would be the perfect place for the English international to land; he fills a major need for them and gets to play in the Champions League.
But according to an ESPN Soccernet report, Wenger isn't in the market for a centre-back, much less a £17 million centre-back.
""We currently have four central defenders," he told German publication Kicker, "and so there is no need for another."
"
Sure, Wenger could be slow-playing a deal, but until we hear something on the wire about Cahill, consider this deal in a holding pattern.
Scott Dann Still on the Radar for Wenger?
4 of 6I know, I know; we just got done talking about how Wenger wasn't in the market for a new centre-back.
But while that puts Cahill on hold thanks to the radio silence, it doesn't apply to Dann, simply because the 24-year-old defender has been the subject of a massive influx of chatter over the last week.
In fact, a report from Sky Sports News indicates that not only are the Gunners in the market for Dann, they've started negotiations with Birmingham for the 24-year-old defender.
Dann is a good low-cost option for Wenger and Arsenal; when he's healthy, the Englishman is a solid tackler and passer, who would immediately bolster Arsenal's defense. But, Dann alone isn't enough to fully solidify the Gunners' defense. If Arsenal are in the market for him, they need to find another defender to solidify their back line as well.
This feels legit; Wenger loves to slow-play deals, and Arsenal could use a player like Dann in the fold. However, as good as he is, they'll need a bit more if they want their defense to be any less porous next season, which means there could be more moves on the way.
Jadson in Wenger's Sights as Fabregas Replacement
5 of 6With Fabregas likely headed out of Emirates in the near future, the Gunners have been hunting for a new playmaking midfielder for several weeks.
Most recently (and most surprisingly), they started kicking the tires on Shaktar Donetsk star Jadson. The 27-year-old Brazilian midfielder wasn't really seen as a potential target, but that didn't stop Wenger from contacting the club, according to The Guardian.
In fact, Arsenal went so far as to submit a formal bid for the Brazilian playmaker, according to reports from Brazil.
Fortunately, the bid was roundly rejected by the Ukranian club, saving Wenger from his own insanity.
What was the Frenchman thinking? While Jadson is likely cheaper than, say, Juan Mata, there's a reason why. He's technically sound, but in terms of talent, he's hardly a fitting replacement for the departing Spaniard.
Gooner faithful had best hope Wenger regains his sanity in the near future, lest he push further on a vastly inferior replacement for Cesc Fabregas.
Is Juan Mata Back on Gunners' Wish List?
6 of 6The Gunners may have whiffed on Juan Mata early on in the summer, but that doesn't mean they're out of the race for the versatile, 23-year-old Valencia midfielder.
With Samir Nasri heading to City in the near future, reports indicate that the Gunners have jumped back into the hunt for a playmaking winger or midfielder. With another whiff on Jadson on the books this summer, Wenger is preparing to jump back into the game for Mata.
For those who don't remember, the Gunners had an offer rejected earlier in the summer, but according to a Daily Mail report, Wenger is ready to get back into the race with his coffers stacked with cash. Everyone knows how much it will cost to get the talented 23-year-old midfield maestro, thanks to his £17.5 million buyout clause.
The Spaniard would be the perfect addition to the Gunners' midfield; he's versatile, creative with the ball at his feet, and possesses both a fantastic shot and unparalleled pitch vision. With the coffers flush with cash, odds are good that Wenger won't lowball Valencia once again.
Will their bid pay off? It's hard to say; but something tells me that the Gooner faithful would be thrilled to get him as a replacement for their dynamic departing duo.
