Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Cahill, Dann, Enrique, Mertesacker, Hazard and More

Allan JiangJun 3, 2018

IN: Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Doni, Stewart Downing

OUT: Paul Konchesky, Milan Jovanović

When you talk about value for money, Liverpool received the short end of the stick when buying Henderson and Downing.

Though that wasn't the case with Adam, but the problem is where will he fit? Surely he's not going to replace Lucas Leiva, who was so impressive last season, but the Brazilian is expendable, and perhaps manager Kenny Daglish will do away with playing a defensive midfielder.

Doni has a good track record and will be a welcome reserve to Pepe Reina.

What do Liverpool need right now?

A left-back and a centre-back because to be blunt, their defending so far during preseason has been atrocious.

Regardless if it's preseason or not, the aging Jamie Carragher, the injury-prone Daniel Agger and the suspect Martin Škrtel are signs to Daglish to sign a centre-back.

Here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.

Gary Cahill

1 of 10

Ian Cruise at talkSPORT reported Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle saying, "Some of the newspaper reports are completely without foundation. If you want to put in an offer, do it. If not, leave the boy alone to concentrate on his football."

Gary Cahill's release clause is £17 million, but his contract ends next season, so the fact he could go for free means his transfer fee will be lowered,

It seems Coyle will not budge hence why this transfer saga is being dragged out.

Good thing for Liverpool is the only other club eyeing Cahill are Arsenal, and Liverpool can outbid Arsenal.

Scott Dann

2 of 10

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are seeking to begin talks with Birmingham centre-back and boyhood Liverpool fan Scott Dann.

Sportsvibe.co.uk are reporting that Arsenal and Liverpool are fighting over Dann and Gary Cahill.

If you were advising Kenny Daglish, who would you take, Dann or Cahill?

José Enrique

3 of 10

According to Givemefootball.com, Newcastle have already began looking at replacements for José Enrique because they are resigned to losing him to Liverpool.

It's believed Enrique will arrive at Anfield in the coming week for £5.5 million.

Would you start Enrique over a healthy Fábio Aurélio?

Per Mertesacker

4 of 10

In March, Per Mertesacker flirted with the idea of playing in the English Premier League (EPL), and two days ago, Goal.com reported Mertesacker again voicing a desire to play in the EPL.

With his contract ending in 2012, Mertesacker becomes a viable option for Liverpool.

Though keep in mind his form in the Bundesliga last season was poor. Werder Bremen are in limbo when it comes to competing, and the emerging colossal of Mats Hummels will effectively mean curtains for Mertesacker's first-team place in the German national team.

Essentially, Mertesacker is a fading star.

Álvaro Pereira

5 of 10

According to Insidefutbol.com, Liverpool will launch a bid for Porto's high energy left-back Álvaro Pereira.

I ranked Pereira as the eighth best player in this year's Copa América.

As industrious as he is on the field and his ability to be an effective winger, he's not worth anything over £15 million.

The strongest competition Liverpool will face is former Porto manager André Villas-Boas courting Pereira to come to Stamford Bridge.

From an economical perspective, Paris Saint-Germain are in the driver's seat.

Gérson Magrão

6 of 10

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool may take an unconventional route in signing Dynamo Kiev's Gérson Magrão to solve their left-back connundrem.

Aside from sharing the same name with forgotten maestro Gérson, the architect of that legendary 1970 Brazilian side, Magrão isn't the solution.

Didn't make it at Feyenoord or Flamengo, and his performances for Dynamo Kiev have been so-so.

Anonymous during the UEFA Champions League campaign, and his performances last season were littered with indiscipline.

Five games into the Ukrainian season, Magrão has yet to feature.

Park Chu-Young

7 of 10

According to Insidefutbol.com, Liverpool are weighing up the option of signing Monaco's Park Chu-Young.

Monaco were relegated from Ligue 1, so they'll be forced to sell Park, and whilst Liverpool do not need Park, he would be handy.

A very nimble and intelligent footballer, Park not only will be an invaluable teammate but a good marketing ploy.

Eden Hazard

8 of 10

According to Fanatix.com (h/t Sportsvibe.co.uk), Liverpool are looking at the possibility of signing Lille's Belgian starlet Eden Hazard.

Hazard will cost Liverpool £20 million, but the question remains, does he want to move to Liverpool or reunite with former teammate Gervinho at Arsenal.

Joe Cole

9 of 10

According to the Metro, Anfield outcast Joe Cole will be offloaded to ambitious Paris Saint-Germain.

Cole has to ask himself is the writing on the wall, given the summer acquisitions of  Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing.

Would you be happy if Cole left Liverpool?

Which Two Players Would You Choose?

10 of 10

Álvaro Pereira, Eden Hazard, Gary Cahill, Gérson Magrão, José Enrique,  Park Chu-Young, Per Mertesacker and  Scott Dann.

Kenny Daglish has asked you to pick two players from the nine aforementioned players.

For me, a centre-back and a left-back are the two main priorities Daglish need to adress before the transfer windows closes.

So Daglish, I want you to sign Cahill and Enrique.

Cahill is more polished, more crafty and just a better defender than Dann.

Enrique will do a job and always play a 6/10 game for you, whereas someone like Fábio Aurélio spends more time on the treatment table.

Pereira would be a luxury signing, but at the end of the day Porto want money, and Liverpool will not outbid Chelsea, let alone Paris Saint-Germain.
