Liverpool Transfer Rumours: Cahill, Dann, Enrique, Mertesacker, Hazard and More
IN:ย Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam, Doni, Stewart Downing
OUT:ย Paul Konchesky, Milan Jovanoviฤ
When you talk about value for money, Liverpool received the short end of the stick when buying Henderson and Downing.ย
Though that wasn't the case with Adam, but the problem is where will he fit? Surely he's not going to replaceย Lucas Leiva, who was so impressive last season, but the Brazilian is expendable, and perhaps manager Kenny Daglish will do away with playing a defensive midfielder.ย
Doni has a good track record and will be a welcome reserve toย Pepe Reina.
What do Liverpool need right now?ย
A left-back and a centre-back because to be blunt, their defending so far during preseason has beenย atrocious. ย
Regardless if it's preseason or not, the agingย Jamie Carragher, the injury-proneย Daniel Agger and the suspectย Martin ล krtel are signs to Daglish to sign a centre-back.ย
Here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.ย
Gary Cahill
1 of 10Ian Cruise at talkSPORT reported Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle saying, "Some of the newspaper reports are completely without foundation. If you want to put in an offer, do it. If not, leave the boy alone to concentrate on his football."
Gary Cahill's release clause isย ยฃ17 million, but his contract ends next season, so the fact he could go for free means his transfer fee will be lowered, ย
It seems Coyle will not budge hence why this transfer saga is being dragged out.ย
Good thing for Liverpool is the only other club eyeing Cahill are Arsenal, and Liverpool can outbid Arsenal.ย
Scott Dann
2 of 10According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are seeking to begin talks with Birmingham centre-back and boyhood Liverpool fan Scott Dann.ย
Sportsvibe.co.uk are reporting that Arsenal and Liverpool are fighting over Dann and Gary Cahill.ย
If you were advising Kenny Daglish, who would you take, Dann or Cahill?ย
José Enrique
3 of 10According to Givemefootball.com, Newcastle have already began looking at replacements for Josรฉ Enrique because they are resigned to losing him to Liverpool.ย
It's believed Enrique will arrive at Anfield in the coming week forย ยฃ5.5 million.
Would you start Enrique over a healthyย Fรกbio Aurรฉlio?ย ย ย
Per Mertesacker
4 of 10In March, Per Mertesacker flirted with the idea of playing in the English Premier League (EPL), and two days ago, Goal.com reported Mertesacker again voicing a desire to play in the EPL.
With his contract ending in 2012,ย Mertesacker becomes a viable option for Liverpool.ย
Though keep in mind his form in the Bundesliga last season was poor.ย Werder Bremen are in limbo when it comes to competing, and the emerging colossal of Mats Hummels will effectively mean curtains for Mertesacker's first-team place in the German national team.ย
Essentially, Mertesacker is a fading star.ย ย
Álvaro Pereira
5 of 10According toย Insidefutbol.com, Liverpool will launch a bid for Porto's high energy left-back รlvaro Pereira.ย
I ranked Pereira as theย eighthย best player in this year'sย Copa Amรฉrica.ย
As industrious as he is on the field and his ability to be an effective winger, he's not worth anything over ยฃ15 million.
The strongest competition Liverpool will face is former Porto manager Andrรฉ Villas-Boas courting Pereira to come to Stamford Bridge.ย
From an economical perspective, Paris Saint-Germain are in the driver's seat.ย ย ย ย ย ย
Gérson Magrão
6 of 10According to talkSPORT, Liverpool may take an unconventional route in signing Dynamo Kiev's Gรฉrson Magrรฃo to solve their left-back connundrem.
Aside from sharing the same name with forgotten maestro Gรฉrson, the architect of that legendary 1970 Brazilian side, Magrรฃo isn't the solution.ย
Anonymousย during the UEFA Champions League campaign, and his performances last season were littered withย indiscipline.
Five games into theย Ukrainian season,ย Magrรฃo has yet to feature.ย ย ย
Park Chu-Young
7 of 10According to Insidefutbol.com, Liverpool are weighing up the option of signing Monaco'sย Park Chu-Young.ย
Monaco were relegated from Ligue 1, so they'll be forced to sell Park, and whilst Liverpool do not need Park, he would be handy.ย
A very nimble and intelligent footballer, Park not only will be an invaluable teammate but a good marketing ploy.ย
Eden Hazard
8 of 10According to Fanatix.com (h/t Sportsvibe.co.uk), Liverpool are looking at the possibility of signing Lille's Belgian starletย Eden Hazard.ย
Hazard will cost Liverpoolย ยฃ20 million, but the question remains, does he want to move to Liverpool or reunite with former teammate Gervinho at Arsenal.ย
Joe Cole
9 of 10According to the Metro, Anfield outcast Joe Cole will be offloaded to ambitious Paris Saint-Germain.
Cole has to ask himself is the writing on the wall, given the summer acquisitions of ย Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing.ย
Would you be happy if Cole left Liverpool? ย
Which Two Players Would You Choose?
10 of 10รlvaro Pereira, Eden Hazard,ย Gary Cahill,ย Gรฉrson Magrรฃo, Josรฉ Enrique, ย Park Chu-Young, Per Mertesacker and ย Scott Dann.ย ย ย ย ย ย
Kenny Daglish has asked you to pick two players from the nine aforementioned players.ย
For me, a centre-back and a left-back are the two main priorities Daglish need to adress before the transfer windows closes.
So Daglish, I want you to sign Cahill and Enrique.ย
Cahill is more polished, more crafty and just a better defender than Dann.
Enrique will do a job and always play a 6/10 game for you, whereas someone like Fรกbio Aurรฉlio spends more time on the treatment table.ย
Pereira would be a luxury signing, but at the end of the day Porto want money, and Liverpool will not outbid Chelsea, let alone Paris Saint-Germain.
