College Football 2011: 5 Great Bets for Season Win Totals
Season win totals are out in Vegas and college football is right around the corner to wet your gambling appetite. Not everybody feels comfortable making preseason bets on a team that will last over the whole season, but if you do a little research, they can be very profitable. Here are five great picks to get started with.
Stanford Cardinal: Over 8.5
1 of 5Despite losing their head coach, Stanford returns the best quarterback in the country and plays a schedule that only features one really difficult road game, at USC. They get Oregon and Notre Dame both at home, and if they manage to break even over those two, should have no problem climbing over the 8.5 games that Vegas has set for them.
Texas A&M Aggies: Over 8.5
2 of 5Texas A&M will be very good this year and are probably a little bit under-ranked at nine in the preseason polls. They do play a fairly difficult schedule, but return 18 starters from a team that won nine games a year ago. The road game to Oklahoma may end up a loss, but Oklahoma State and Texas both have to travel to College Station, and the Aggies should manage at least nine wins once again in 2011.
Wisconsin Badgers: Over 9.5
3 of 5Wisconsin looks like the strongest team in the new Big Ten this year after the addition of Russell Wilson at quarterback. Wilson provides an already good Badger offense with another dimension, and should help guide his team through a fairly easy schedule. Two road games at Michigan State and Ohio State will be tough, but even if they lose both shouldn't lose any at Camp Randall. Look for the Badgers to impress on their way to double-digit wins in 2011.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish: Over 8.5
4 of 5Notre Dame has always recruited well, but done a poor job developing players over the last several years. With Brian Kelly in his second year as the Irish coach that will finally change, and Notre Dame will be back on the national forefront. They probably won't win at Stanford, and games against USC, Michigan, and Michigan State will be tough, but the Irish will finish at least 9-3 and go over their posted win total.
BYU Cougars: Over 8.5
5 of 5BYU will be a tough team to beat under Bronco Mendenhall this year. With sophomore quarterback Jake Heaps ready to take his game to the next level, and a schedule that features seven home games, the Cougars should lose no more than 3 and will go over the posted total.
