College Football Preseason Rankings Heading into Week 1 of the 2011 Season

Randy ChambersJun 6, 2018

College football is less than two weeks away, and fans everywhere can't wait. With all of the scandals that have been going on lately, it will be refreshing to finally put the pads on and kick off a great 2011 college football season. Here are your preseason power rankings.

1. Oklahoma—They have to be the favorite heading into Week 1. Great quarterback, ridiculous receiving corp and a solid offensive line. Defense isn't that shabby either.

2. Alabama—The Crimson Tide returns majority of their starters from last year, including a stifling defense. Doesn't hurt that you have a Heisman candidate in the backfield with Trent Richardson.

3. Oregon—The Ducks still have the main two weapons on their team that got them to the championship game last season. That's Darron Thomas and Lamichael James. They have unfinished business this season.

4. Florida State—The Seminoles return 18 starters and many consider them to be "back." We'll find out soon in Week 3, but on paper this team is looking really good.

5. LSU—Les Miles says this could be the most talented team he's ever had at LSU. Although, I am concerned with who's under center. Jordan Jefferson enjoyed completing passes to the other team last season. Their schedule is also brutal.

6. Stanford—Defensive and offensive lines need work and have a new head coach. But who cares when you have Andrew Luck on your side? He can't do it all, but he can come pretty darn close.

7. Boise State—Another season were the Broncos will have a double-digit win season. It will also be another season where the BCS will do anything in their power to try and keep them out of the Championship game.

8. Oklahoma State—The Cowboys offense will be one of the most fun-to-watch units in college football with Brandon Weeden and the nation's top receiver in Justin Blackmon.

9. Arkansas—Losing Ryan Mallet may not be that big of a deal if Tyler Wilson can play every game the way he did against Auburn last season. Shouldn't be much of an issue with a deep receiving corp.

10. Texas A&M—The Aggies didn't lose much on the offensive side of the ball and have enough depth of defense to get by. Mike Sherman has this team on the right track as the expectations are high this season.

11. Wisconsin—The Badgers offense was fantastic last season. Add Russell Wilson and returning running backs in James White and Montee Ball and this offense becomes scary. Back-to-back games against Michigan State and Ohio State will help determine were exactly this team will end up.

12. Nebraska—If Taylor Martinez can stay healthy, the Cornhuskers have a great shot at winning the Big Ten. If not, well, not so much.

13. South Carolina—Steve Spurrier may just have gotten his Florida Gators swagger back and could begin winning again. Much of it depends on if Stephen Garcia can play more consistent football.

14. Virginia Tech—Can Logan Thomas fill in Tyrod Taylor's shoes? That is the main question for the Hokies. But if I didn't think he could, Virginia Tech wouldn't be this high on the list.

15. TCU—The Horned Frogs lost several players on defense and have a young quarterback leading the way in Casey Pachall. Have a tough test Week 1 against Baylor.

16. Notre Dame—Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know. The Fighting Irish played some horrible games last season. But they return majority of their starters and have a sub-par schedule. If they struggle this season, the criticism will be well deserved.

17. Ohio State—The Buckeyes will have the biggest challenge of any team this season, replacing tons of starters—including their starting quarterback and head coach. But that game against Miami looks even better now.

18. West Virginia—The Mountaineers are the best team from the Big East, but that's not really saying much. Probably going to struggle on defense, but Geno Smith should be fun to watch.

19. Michigan State—The Spartans have a solid quarterback in Kirk Cousins and Edwin Baker, who rushed for 1,200 yards last season. This year they won't have a cupcake schedule though.

20. Arizona State—Can Brock Osweiler play well for a whole season? Can they limit all of the dumb penalties they had last season? If the answer is yes to both questions, the Sun Devils will be fine.

21. Texas—The Longhorns had an extremely disappointing season, and with a new coaching staff and struggling quarterback, it could very well happen again. I just don't see Texas having back-to-back bad seasons.

22. Mississippi StateDan Mullen has really turned the Bulldogs around, and with Chris Relf and Vick Ballard returning, they could be ready to take that next step. Possibly SEC Championship game?

23. Florida—New coaching staff, but the team still remains loaded with talent. If this team can begin clicking before Week 5 against Alabama, they could shock some people.

24. USC—The Trojans may not be able to win the Pac-12, but they will have a say in who does. With Matt Barkley and Robert Woods, USC should be able to get some of the bad taste out of their mouth from last year.

25. Georgia—Mark Richt is on the hot seat, so the Bulldogs better win and win now. There are concerns with several starters leaving, but an easy schedule by SEC standards will help them out a lot.

Teams just missing this weeks power rankings: Missouri, BYU, Utah, Miami, Auburn, Air Force, Texas Tech, Penn State, Auburn and North Carolina.
