2011 NFL Predictions: 5 NFL Coaches Most Likely to Get Canned
The NFL is finally back, and before you know it, the season will be here.
Every year brings new surprises, as well as big time disappointments. What does 2011 have in store for us? If you're anything like me, you can't wait to find out.
Another thing that happens every year is coaches entering the season on the hot seat. Who will be the first to get fired?
Here are five coaches most likely to get canned for poor performances in the 2011 season.
5. Tom Coughlin
1 of 5Tom Coughlin hasn't done much for the New York Giants since winning the Super Bowl in 2007.
He missed the playoffs the last two years, and if that happens again in 2011, you can say bye-bye to the oldest coach in the NFL.
Coughlin isn't helping his cause, either, as the Giants aren't having a stellar offseason. They may end up losing Osi Umenyiora before the start of the season, and they have already lost one of Eli Manning's favorite targets in Kevin Boss.
Coughlin cannot miss the playoffs this year, and even if he does, he can't lose in the first round again or he'll get canned.
4. Norv Turner
2 of 5Norv Turner has done nothing but frustrate fans of the San Diego Chargers. Sure, he may have won the AFC West three years in a row, but at some point you have to elevate that to the next level and win a Super Bowl.
If Turner fails to make the playoffs again this year, or if he falls short of reaching the AFC Championship game, then he needs to be let go. The Chargers need to find themselves a coach that can get over the playoff hump and win a Super Bowl.
San Diego has too much talent not to reach the Super Bowl, but Turner is holding them back. Another lackluster season from Turner and he'll get the boot.
3. Jack Del Rio
3 of 5Jack Del Rio has been the head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars since 2003. He has done a decent job with his only head coaching job, but after so long, decent just doesn't cut it.
Unfortunately for Del Rio, he's stuck in a division with Peyton Manning, which means the chances of him winning the AFC South are very slim.
Del Rio has only made the playoffs two times, and it hasn't happened since 2007. He had two losing seasons in a row after 2007. Many thought he would lose his job, but he managed to save in 2010 by scraping by with an 8-8 season and second place finish in the division.
Del Rio needs to step his game up this year or else his days as a head coach will soon be over.
2. Marvin Lewis
4 of 5The Cincinnati Bengals are in for a rough year. Even though Marvin Lewis recently signed a contract extension, he is still on the hot seat.
Lewis can't seem to get his team under control, and he is losing players left and right. The team has a ton of cap space, but yet they haven't been big time players in the free-agency market. You would think Lewis would be pitching for some big time help for his team, but it isn't happening.
The Bengals don't have a quarterback, and the possibility of them going winless is there. Lewis could be a coach to lose his job midseason.
1. Tony Sparano
5 of 5Tony Sparano hasn't had much success with the Miami Dolphins. After his first year, things looked promising, but the past two seasons, the Dolphins have gone 7-9.
Sparano had a chance to finally land a quarterback that can throw the ball efficiently, but the Dolphins never made the deal with the Denver Broncos for Kyle Orton. Chad Henne isn't going to take this team very far, and it's going to cost Sparano his job.
Miami will forever be stuck in third in the AFC East as long as Sparano is around attempting to coach. Sparano is the coach most likely to get canned during the middle of the season, especially since the chances of starting the season 0-8 are very likely.
