2011 College Football Predictions: Picking the Winners of Every Conference

Nate ScacciaJun 7, 2018

With college football season quickly approaching, it is time to pick favorites to win each conference and the winner of the National Championship.

I will give my winner for every conference, and I will also include the team's best games on the schedule.

Will your team win its conference? Let's find out.

* All rankings are from yahoo.com and are the end of 2010 rankings.

The ACC

1 of 12

This year the ACC will have two teams with potential to win the conference championship. Those teams are Florida State and Virginia Tech. I can see this year being the year Florida State gets back to the top and win the ACC.

I pick Florida State to win the ACC.

Top Games of 2011

Sept. 17: (6) Oklahoma

Oct. 22: (23) Maryland

Nov. 12: Miami

Florida State has a very good chance at going 11-1 this season. If they can upset Oklahoma, then an undefeated season and possible national championship may not be far out of reach.

The Big 12

2 of 12

The Big 12 lost two teams in the offseason. Those teams are Nebraska and Colorado. This doesn't really change my pick for the conference champion however.

Oklahoma will win the Big 12.

Top Games of 2011

Sept. 17: @ (17) Florida State

Oct. 8: @ Texas

Dec. 3: @ (13) Oklahoma State

The Big East

3 of 12

Who will win the Big East this season? The Big East features two teams that have a chance at winning and each one has had controversy this offseason. Pittsburgh and West Virginia will be the top two teams in the conference this year.

I pick WVU to win the Big East this season.

Top Games of 2011

Sept. 17: @(23) Maryland

Sept. 24: (8) LSU

Nov. 25: Pittsburgh

The Big Ten

4 of 12

The Big Ten added Nebraska to the conference in the offseason and they will be a force to be reckoned with. With Ohio State's offseason troubles, the Big Ten is open to anyone to take the top slot.

I pick Nebraska to win the Big Ten.

Top Games of 2011

Oct. 1: @ (7) Wisconsin

Oct. 8: (5) Ohio State

Nov. 12: @ Penn State

Conference USA

5 of 12

The first non-BCS conference in the article. The C-USA has a bunch of solid teams and will be up for grabs this season. Houston, UCF and Tulsa will all be good and will be competing for the conference crown.

I pick UCF to win the conference in 2011.

Top Games of 2011

Sept. 23: @ BYU

Nov. 3: (24) Tulsa

The MAC

6 of 12

Who will win the Mid American Conference this season? The conference will have many new head coaches this year with Northern Illinois, Temple and Miami Ohio all getting new coaches.

With that said, I pick Toledo to win the conference in 2011.

Top Games of 2011

Sept. 10: @ (5) Ohio State

Sept. 16: (9) Boise State

The Mountain West

7 of 12

The Mountain West added powerhouse Boise State to its teams this year. Boise State will compete with TCU to win the conference championship this year.

I pick TCU to win on their last season in the Mountain West.

Top Games of 2011

Nov. 12: (9) @ Boise State

TCU goes into the "Smurf Turf" and steals a rare win.

The Pac-12

8 of 12

The Pac-12 added two teams this offseason, Utah and Colorado. How will this shake up the conference? The Pac-12 is a tough conference to pick this season. Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Stanford and Utah will all be possible threats to the conference crown.

It is a hard choice but I pick Stanford to win the Pac-12.

Top Games of 2011

Oct. 29: @ USC

Nov. 12: (3) Oregon

Nov. 26: Notre Dame

The SEC

9 of 12

The toughest conference in college football is the SEC. With so many good teams and so much talent, it is very difficult to pick just one team.

I pick Alabama to win the SEC, but LSU is a very close second.

Top Games of 2011

Sept. 10: @ Penn State

Nov. 5: (8) LSU

Nov. 26: (1) Auburn

The Sun Belt

10 of 12

The Sun Belt conference is the polar opposite of the SEC. That's not to say that the conference doesn't have talent and decent teams. Troy has shown over the last few years that they have a good ball club and a solid talent pool. Troy has one five straight Sun Belt conference titles, this year they make it six.

I pick Troy to win the Sun Belt in 2011.

Top Games of 2011

Sept. 3: @ Clemson

Sept. 17: @ (12) Arkansas

Oct. 25: @ FIU

The WAC

11 of 12

The final conference is the Western Athletic Conference. The WAC lost Boise State to the Mountain West and that hampers their conference prestige tremendously. With Boise State's absence, Nevada is the team to beat in the WAC.

I pick Nevada to win the WAC in 2011.

Top Games of 2011

Sept. 10: @ (3) Oregon

Oct. 1: @ (9) Boise State (remember, this is non-conference)

Oct. 22: Fresno State

The National Championship Game

12 of 12

With my champions picked, I will now pick my National Championship teams.

Oklahoma will come out of the Big 12 and will make it to the game.

The second team is a stretch, but I have Nebraska out of the Big 10 making it to the game and getting a matchup with old Big 12 rival Oklahoma.

The National Champion?

I pick Oklahoma to win it all in 2011.
