Georgia-Kentucky Shootout? Yes, it is Weird

Nathan HuffhinesNov 8, 2008

First off, I couldn’t post much after the Florida game. I disagree with most about Bobo’s play calling. It boiled down to two things.

First was a complete lack of any execution by the offense, especially in the red zone. The plays were there.

Second was a defense that only forced Tebow to throw the ball 13 times. That’s the most baffling thing I’ve ever heard of….Hello, Willie.

So, Kentucky. First, what an effort by Stafford and the offense. The only complaint I ever really have by now of Stafford is that he will overthrow the deep ball. Wide open or not, you may get an overthrow. That’s it, however.

Bobo and Stafford (from the line) call great plays. They executed to the tune of over 500+ yards. Hats off to MoMass and AJ Green. Both of Mo’s fumbles were pretty good plays by Kentucky. And yet he came back with one of the two plays of the game.

The other play was the VERY JOE MONTANAesque Stafford to Green to win it. Way to go, offense. What a great game and great effort.

Now to a less fun topic. Our special teams are by far the worst ever under Mark Richt. I don’t know exactly why, but it is awful.

Now to the least fun topic. Willie Martinez can’t coach defense worth shit. Yeah, Mark, he may know more than us, but his defenses couldn’t stop six-year-olds in tutus. It’s the worst tackling since before VanGorder. This shows a lack of basic fundamentals.

Further, the defense just isn’t prepared whatsoever for what they see. Martinez had NO ANSWER the whole freakin’ game to the mobile quarterback. If Cobb ran more crappy quarterback draws, I might have jumped out of my window (I live up high).

He couldn’t throw the whole game, yet we allowed 226 rushing yards, most on about the same three plays. Add to that, most of the time we are lining up in exactly the defense we probably shouldn’t be lining up in.

We have had success all year blitzing, and yet, I see the same three-man rush. I see the same face masks because we couldn’t tackle my grandmother if it was an important play. God rest both of their souls.

We have given up 41 to Bama, 38 to LSU, 49 to Florida, and 38 to a Kentucky offense so horrid the rest of the year, that I was contemplating why they don’t kick more on first down.

Van Gorder almost never gave up 30 points in four years. We do it routinely now. Got a 14 point lead? Time to relax and let them score at will. See Kentucky and LSU.

Have an offensive coordinator that can actually think ahead. Give up 30+ points IN ONE HALF!!!! See Florida and Bama. And that’s just this year, folks….

Not to mention a ton of these guys on defense are going to be playing on Sunday. Ellerbe, Curran, Allen, Jones, Owens, Atkins, and Gamble will all be drafted. Tyson (true freshman) may as well.

So seven out of 11 will be playing Sunday. This is possibly the most talented defense Richt has had ever. But they sure as hell don’t look like it with Willie as their coach.

Keep in mind he also coaches the secondary, which is the weakest link of the defense. Not a coincidence, I’m sure.

This man needs to be replaced. And by the end of the year. Defending him at this point is just stubborn and wrong. THE FACTS SPEAK, and our defense under Willie has regressed to the point of absolutely sucking.

Last but not least, congratulations to the players. Dobbs made an amazing play to preserve the win. Way to go, guys.

My worry is that soon, under Willie, our defense won’t even make those plays anymore, relegating us to 8-4 every year.
