Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Three Signings That Would Help the Gunners Win the EPL

Justin WeltonJun 2, 2018

Winning the English Premier League is arguably the hardest achievement to accomplish in sports. There are the same top-notch contenders every season like Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal. There are also teams like Manchester City, Tottenham and Liverpool ready to make a run in 2011-12.

Arsenal hasn't been able to crack the code under head coach Arsene Wenger, but they are getting closer and closer.

They are a few signings away—considering they retain some of their players—from possibly winning the premiership.

Here are three players that could push them over the top.

No 3: Lucas Biglia

Lucas Biglia is a defensive midfielder from Argentina. His club team is currently Anderlecht.

Biglia has made six appearances on the Argentine national team. He won the Young Professional Footballer of the Year award in 2006-07.

Defense is a major question mark for the Gunners. Bringing in Biglia would be an upgrade to the squad.

Arsenal was looking into lining up a £6 million bid for the Argentine.

No 2: Phil Jagielka

Phil Jagielka is being pursued by Wenger in hopes of securing an Arsenal defense that has been their downfall.

Jagielka is a defender that plays for Everton. He has made eight appearances with the England National team.

“It’s not a surprise to me that a top club would want a player like Phil because he’s fantastic," said Everton teammate Leighton Baines to the Daily Mirror.

“He’s one of the top three or four defenders that the country’s got. It’s no surprise. But we’d like to hold on to him if we can.”

Defense is a major need for Arsenal, and this signing would indeed help the back significantly.

No 1: Juan Manuel Mata

Juan Manuel Mata is the player that many Arsenal fans are screaming for. Mata seems like a great fit in the midfield for the Gunners.

He controls the pace of the game from the midfield, while showing above-average goal scoring ability.

Mata is a smart player that would mesh well with the other younger players on the Gunners. He has provided some goal-scoring ability at the youth level and senior level in his career.

He has scored 33 goals in 129 appearances for his club team Valencia.

In 11 appearances with the Spain National team, Mata has scored four goals.

Reports are that the Gunners are close to landing the young midfielder/winger. Wenger and Arsenal should get this deal done if they want to be serious about an English Premier League title.
