AC Milan's 10 Best Goals of 2010-11
AC Milan's defense was the key reason that they won the Italian Serie A during the 2010-11 season, but that did not stop the star-studded attack from turning a lot of heads.
Milan made two incredible signings late in the transfer window by bringing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho—two of the most talented forwards in the world—to team up with Alexandre Pato, Milan's young superstar.
In all, Milan scored 65 goals in 38 games and held first place from November 10, 2010 through the final day of the season on May 22, 2011.
Milan were not known for the flashy goals, but they had some memorable ones. These are the goals that, after much review and consideration, I consider to be the 10 best from the Serie A campaign during the 2010-11 season.
*Reminder: This does not include the Champions League and Coppa Italia, during which Milan scored another 15 goals, a fair few of which could have made this list. This is strictly Serie A.
10. Antonio Cassano with a Fantastic Goal from a Brilliant Pass Against Parma
1 of 10Milan dominated against Parma during their February clash at the San Siro, which the Rossoneri won 4-0.
Clarence Seedorf opened the scoring eight minutes into the match with a great goal of his own before Cassano put in this one nine minutes later.
This play demonstrated some excellent ball work down the flank with some excellent quick passing between Seedorf, Cassano and Gennaro Gattuso. Gattuso put in the last pass—a brilliant lob over the defense to the feet of Milan's new forward. Cassano then slipped it around Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.
Poor Mirante never stood a chance. This was pure class by Milan.
9. Boateng Shows Quality and Control Against Napoli
2 of 10Napoli were threatening all season and really had their eyes set on Milan for a while.
On February 28th, Milan flexed their muscles against the Azzurri and showed their superiority in the league with a 3-0 triumph over their rivals from Naples.
Ibrahimovic opened the scoring with a spot kick in the 49th minute, but Milan truly started to pull away in the last 15 minutes.
It started with this brilliant play, which saw a long ball played deep into the corner for Pato, who looked up to see Kevin-Prince Boateng flying through the box and, with the lightest of touches, putting in a one-timer with excellent control to double the lead for the Rossoneri.
8. Ibrahimovic Hurts Himself, but Great Goal Against Fiorentina
3 of 10It was a truly unconventional bicycle kick, but Ibrahimovic, often known as Ibracadabra for his magical goals, really pulled the rabbit out of the hat on this one.
Right before halftime against Fiorentina, Ibra handled a long cross perfectly and was able to overhead this one past Artur Boruc, who had no chance, even with the bounce it took before it passed the goal line.
This was somewhat bittersweet for Ibrahimovic, however. He injured his right arm after the goal in celebration and had to come off at the half.
7. Ibra Shows Fancy Footwork and Incredible Shot Speed Against Brescia
4 of 10Milan were not challenged in their matchup with fellow Lombardy club Brescia when their regional rival came to the San Siro.
Milan were already up 2-0 through Kevin-Prince Boateng and Robinho in their December domination of the Leonessa when Zlatan Ibrahimovic struck again.
For a tall guy, the Swedish superstar showed off some flashy footwork, dancing around the defense in the box before firing an absolute laser into the back of the net.
This was the perfect display of Zlatan's versatility and incredible class.
6. Boateng with a Brilliant Volley at Bologna
5 of 10The victory at Bologna was yet another display of pure brilliance by Milan.
A week after thrashing Brescia at the San Siro, Milan picked up yet another 3-0 victory that showed off how great they truly can be.
A great ball to Ibrahimovic and a brilliant run by Kevin-Prince Boateng, with an equally brilliant finish, gave Milan an early lead.
While the goal was fantastic in itself, Boateng showed off his Rocky impersonation at the end. Of course, we all know how good the Ghanaian is at impersonations—he is unarguably the greatest Michael Jackson impersonator in the world.
5. Pato with the Finesse!
6 of 10Back to Milan's domination of Napoli, now.
Shortly after Pato set up Boateng, Pato ran on to the ball after a brilliant clearance and set up the perfect definition of a counterattack.
The Brazilian took two defenders on as he kept control and pushed down the field. He held up, waiting for support, but then tricked everybody and placed a perfectly hit shot into the top corner.
Another brilliant goal off the foot of Alexandre Pato.
4. Ibrahimovic Lobs Genoa's Eduardo
7 of 10Milan had a rough time at the start of the season. After the arrival of Ibrahimovic and Robinho, it took a couple of games to get the second win of the year.
It finally came against Genoa.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic got his first league goal for Milan a couple of days earlier in a draw with Lazio. This time, he put in the game winner in brilliant fashion.
Shortly into the second half, Ibrahimovic ran on to the end of a long ball and, without settling, toe-poked the shot past Eduardo, who got a hand to it, but could do nothing else to stop the ball from going in.
This was classic from Ibrahimovic, but he had one more that was even better.
3. Ibra Nutmegs His Defender To Brilliantly Assist Pato
8 of 10This was a great play all around with quality distribution and quality finishing.
In the away fixture against Genoa, Milan could only come away with a draw.
They started the scoring with this great shot.
Ibrahimovic dribbled the ball to the corner of the six-yard box before executing a nutmeg on his defender, which set Pato up perfectly to put it home.
This one is fun to watch.
2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic's "Are You Kidding Me!" Goal Against Lecce
9 of 10I have no words for this one.
Enjoy.
1. Andrea Pirlo with a Screamer to Beat Parma
10 of 10At 31, Juventus-bound Andrea Pirlo still has one of the best shots in the game. He may not score often, but it is brilliant when he does.
He gave Milan the 10 best years of his career. He scored one goal in his final season in red and black. Talk about going out with a bang.
