AC Milan Transfer News: Milan Back in for Liverpool's Alberto Aquilani

Tim FontenaultJun 2, 2018

Alberto Aquilani is back in the discussion for a move to Milan.

Milan have spent the summer browsing the world for a new midfielder to replace Andrea Pirlo, but they have not made a concrete move on somebody as of yet.

Thirty days remain in the transfer window and a move is likely to come in that time, and it now appears that the Liverpool midfielder could still be in the mix as a one of Milan's options as they refuse to rule out a move, according to ESPN Soccernet.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan from Anfield at Juventus, where he scored twice in 34 appearances. Juventus did not pick up the option to buy him at the end of the season. The Italian is considered surplus at the moment in England, especially with Liverpool's acquisitions of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam.

Liverpool are hoping to cash in on him soon.

Aquilani is well liked by the Milan staff. In the ESPN article, Milan CEO Adriano Galliani described Aquilani as an ideal player:

"

''He's a midfielder with the characteristics that we are looking for so, like with other players in his role, he could be of interest.''

"

A move could depend on Fiorentina. Milan are really hopeful of landing Riccardo Montolivo. The 26-year-old wants away from the Viola, but Fiorentina are hoping to convince him to stay. Despite this, the club have stripped Montolivo of his captaincy.

In fact, Fiorentina were interested in Aquilani as the talks of Montolivo to Milan heated up.

Anything could still happen. It is very possible that Aquilani will join Milan, but he could just as easily move to Fiorentina. Montolivo could easily end up at Milan. The chances are just as good that he stays in Florence.

We still have a month. All we can do is wait and see.
