Oakland Raiders' Outstanding Performance Can Help the Local Area

If the Oakland Raiders play football for a cause that is greater than themselves, might that help revive the economy of the city of Oakland?

In July 2010, 80 Oakland policemen were fired (24 of those policemen have been re-hired and will start again shortly). This news report inspired the question of the relationship between a winning team in a city and the economy of that city.

Some claimed that the move of LeBron James away from Cleveland would hurt the city's economy. If one basketball player's move can shake the economy of a city, then certainly it is possible to believe that one team can have an impact.

If the Oakland Raiders see themselves as good pirates with the ability to spur the economy of the city, it would be a better year for everyone involved.

A winning team would probably inspire celebration from area residents, leading to an increase in souvenir and ticket sales. Tourism would increase as more sports fans from outside Oakland travel to see a quality team.

In 2011, the Oakland Raiders can make their contribution to the ailing economy of the city of Oakland by simply making winning their top priority.

Since the Raider Nation is a national and international group, the Raiders might just stimulate the U.S. economy.

Think of it this way: A winning Oakland Raiders team in 2011 can spur a city to flourish a little more and thereby slow down the layoffs such as the recent layoffs of Oakland policemen.
