Real Madrid Rumours: 4 Reasons Neymar Could Bring Champions League Glory

Aila StumpoJun 7, 2018

Neymar. If you haven’t heard that name, you are most likely living under a rock or never turn the channel to football.

The mere 19-year-old is perhaps the hottest thing on the transfer market right now with teams such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United, both Milanese teams, Anji Makhachkala and more looking for his signature.

Many Madridistas have been interested or have thought of the possibility of Neymar arriving to play in the white of Madrid. Could the young Brazilian striker bring a Champions League trophy next season if he comes?

Tricks and Skills

1 of 4

As can be seen in the video, Neymar is very tricky and skillful on the ball. As proven in the past, this kind of extensive tricks can bring about goals against European opposition in a Champions League setting.

Just this past year, Marcelo scored a stunner against Olympique Lyon in the Round of 16.

Tricky strikers, like Cristiano Ronaldo, have scored many a goal through tricks and skills similar to Neymar's.

Armed with these tricks and skills, the Santos striker could net a few goals in turn helping Real Madrid move through the rounds.

Motivation

Real Madrid's front line is already very competitive with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and possibly Emmanuel Adebayor and Castilla players Alvaro Morata and Joselu.

If Neymar was to move to the Bernabeu, he would have to compete with all six of the players mentioned above for two starting positions. Most likely, he would be given his opportunity to shine in games against opponents considered "easy" or Champions League group stages.

In these games, he would be forced to prove himself to manager Mourinho for a regular start position, which in turn could motivate him to score.

If he is very motivated to score not much can probably stop him and he would most likely net a few. The more he scores in a group stage game, the more likely Madrid is to win the game and gain the points needed to move onto the next round.

Copa Libertadores

The CONMEBOL version of the UEFA Champions League, the Copa Libertadores, was won by Brazilian side Santos this past season. As it happens, this is Neymar's team, and he was integral in his side's triumph.

Santos had to move past Mexican side Club America, Columbian champions Once Caldas and Paraguayans Cerro Porteno. Neymar scored a total of six goals over the course the competition, including a match winner in the final against Uruguayans Penarol.

With the experience of a Champions League-type win, Neymar could carry that over to the Bernabeu with him and help Madrid to their 10th title.

Goal vs. Penarol in Copa Libertadores Final

4 of 4

Taking place during the Copa Libertadores final against Uruguayan powerhouse Penarol, this Neymar-strike sparked a second from Danilo to seal the win for the Brazilians.

The second-leg of the final, which took place at Santos's stadium Vila Belmiro, proved to pressurize the players of each side. The first-leg in Uruguay ended in a 0-0 draw, and with the match now in Brazil, many pundits and Santos fans pointed to their team to take the title with Neymar as a goal-scorer.

None of this seemed to faze him as he became the first one to put his name on the score sheet, only proving he can score under-pressure and in big games.

In the scenario, Real Madrid make it to the final of this year's Champions League in Bavaria's Allianz Arena, and young Neymar starts. He will not be expected to freeze or disappear as many say Cristiano Ronaldo does.
